Self-publishing is a rewarding journey. However, it has its own set of challenges. Here are tips to ensure your book reaches its full potential: ✔ Invest in a professional editor to polish your manuscript. It’s an investment in your book’s quality and reader satisfaction. ✔ Hire a professional designer to create a compelling, high-quality cover that captures the essence of your book. ✔ Ensure your book is properly formatted for both print and digital versions. Consider using professional formatting services. ✔ Develop a comprehensive marketing strategy that includes social media, email marketing, and book promotions to build visibility and attract readers. ✔ Use ISBNs for all book formats and ensure your metadata is accurate and optimized for search engines. ✔ Set realistic goals and understand that building a readership and gaining recognition takes time and consistent effort. ✔ Research similar books in your genre to price your book competitively while ensuring you cover your costs. ✔ Have multiple rounds of proofreading to catch any remaining errors before publishing. ✔ Encourage readers to leave reviews and engage with their feedback to improve future books. ✔ Build your online presence through a personal website, blog, and active social media profiles to engage with your audience. Incorporating these common tips can significantly enhance your self-publishing journey. Remember, every successful #author started where you are now – learning, growing, and improving. Happy publishing! #SelfPublishing #AuthorSuccess #BookCoach #BookEditors #Pen2Publishing

When does the first Marketing & Publicity meeting with your publisher take place? It used to be 5-6 months out. Now it’s 4. A combination of volume—more books being published than ever before—and the shorter lead time for media following the pandemic. What sort of questions should you or your agent ask? -What is the announced first print run? Is this bigger or more modest, compared to similar titles you’re publishing? (This will give you a sense of the publisher’s expectations for selling through those copies.) -What comps are you seeing for this book internally? (This will help you with your own website and positioning online.) -Would it be helpful for me to create a video of my speaking about the book for your sales team to look at? -How are you categorizing the book on Amazon? What keywords are you using? -What sort of bookstore distribution is expected; or do you expect sales to be generated largely online? -(For nonfiction authors who speak regularly): For speaking events I do, what vendors would you recommend organizations buying from? -Do you have a speakers bureau for authors, or can you recommend lecture agents you like? -What are the top media targets you have in mind and have relationships with? -(If you plan to hire an independent publicist): where could they best supplement? What’s the best way they can work collaboratively with you, without interfering? Do you have any publicists you particularly like working with? This is just the beginning of the laundry list I ask as an agent in these meetings. There’s so much more. At Lucinda Literary, I love to coach authors in how to ask the right questions, and become their own best advocates. #coaching #amwriting #publishing #query #agent #bookdeal #marketing #publisher #authorssupportingauthors

First-time author? These 5 tips can help set you up for success... Publishing a book is a dream for many, but when you finally become an author how are you supposed to get it in front of readers? Keep these 5 tips in mind: 1. It's never too early to start marketing Even if you're still in the writing phase, you can be doing things like growing a base on social media or collecting email addresses. Even small steps can help you once you're ready to hit publish. 2. Get clear on your target reader Your target audience does not (and should not) equal everyone. Do your best to identify a specific audience for your book and start your marketing with only that group in mind. 3. Network with other authors in your genre Other authors are not your competition. In fact, authors are some of the best supporters you can have for your book! Create genuine connections with those who share a similar target reader. 4. Consistency matters Sit down and find a consistent schedule that works for you when it comes to content on social media and/or email. Frequency can certainly help you reach more people faster, but it's more important to maintain consistency. 5. Play the long game It's tempting to cram all your marketing ideas into the first few weeks, but remember your book will be available on an ongoing basis! Spread out your marketing initiatives--it's better for the book and it's better for your workload. What would you add to this list for first-time authors? #bookmarketing #bookpublishing #publishing #publishingservices #writingtips
