This is the first in a series of webinars where we look into alternatives to PFAS for applications where it is often claimed that alternatives are missing. From my experience, when digging into this, PFAS alternatives are available or under development for most uses. This is an area where innovation really has taken off because of regulatory initiatives. There are specific exceptions where more innovation is necessary, and where it could be justified to use PFAS for some more time. But using PFAS should be the exemption and not the rule - as it has been for a long time up till now.

It’s a wrap for Team #VTT together with Jaakko Kuusisaari and, Miika Nikinmaa) at The International Fibre Moulding and Paper Forming Conference 2024! What an incredible event it was at the grand venue (Vasateatern). We had the pleasure of listening fantastic speakers, including our very own Miika Nikinmaa. The audience were highly engaged, and the networking opportunities were excellent. The entire value chain was represented, from material and chemical suppliers to technology providers, end-users, and brand owners. VTT is happy to support all the players in the value chain with our expertise and piloting capabilities, helping companies on their commercialization journeys. Few takeaways: 1. Growth across the value chain is enabled through collaboration. 2. The opportunities to displace plastic with molded pulp are endless. 3. There are many more opportunities to extend collaboration to accelerate the development and commercialization of molded fiber. 4. Sufficient sustainability improvements can be achieved by transitioning from plastic to molded fiber solutions. 5. Further development of barriers for oxygen, moisture, water, and oil is still needed.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. Wilson from Dongfang and Mr. Patrick from Fosber recently. It was an insightful discussion where we delved into the advancements in the corrugator industry. It's truly impressive to see how much China has progressed in technology, now standing toe-to-toe with European machines in terms of innovation and efficiency. Our conversation highlighted the exciting future innovations that are on the horizon for the corrugator industry.
