It was a Giving Tuesday email in 2020 from then UVic Dean of Engineering, Dr. Peter Wild, that led to my wife, Antoinette, and me making our first donation to UVic, where we had both graduated. That gift was the start of our creation of the Cora Arenas & Carol Artemiw Award for Second Year Women in Engineering & Computer Science. We named this award after our mothers — who taught us perseverance and supported us through our educations. Our goal is a graduating class in 2030 that meets or exceeds 30% women in Engineering & Computer Science. We believe this is the tipping point toward a sustain balance of women in engineering. Our strategy is to fund women continuing their education in second year. To date, 50 awards valued at $2,000 each have been distributed to young women continuing their engineering education at UVic. We were very deliberate in ensuring that this award was not an endowment. Funds are distributed to students in full, directly and as quickly as possible. We wanted to ensure every dollar put into the award was positively affecting the lives of current students immediately so they can just focus on being successful in their studies. Fast forward to today, we are now working with an incredible group at UVic — Dr. Mina Hoorfar, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Jessica Vandenberghe, Assistant Dean Community and Culture, and Anne-Lise Loomer Development Officer for the faculty — on a significant expansion of this award for the 2025 school year. This Giving Tuesday we have pledged $50,000 in matching funds for the award. This doubles the impact of every dollar donated — every dollar to help grow women in engineering. We hope you will consider making a contribution to this award - https://lnkd.in/eAeF5bD2

Did you know the number 1 most common limited belief? I am not enough. Did you know that limited beliefs are formed from 0-7? Limited belief stick with us till we recognize them and shift them. It is why my new children's book: You Really, Truly Are Enough is so important to get into the hands of kids. Imagine your kid growing up without that pesky limited belief that they are not enough? Imagine how high their self-esteem and self-worth would be? They wouldn't be scared to fail or to experience new things or try out for sports or school plays. I hadn’t noticed that the spellcheck function had chucked out “develop” and substituted it with “de W’loo” your leadership. I hope it made those of you who did notice smile or chuckle! :) It made me reflect on the foibles of algorithmic AI which seems to be immensely helpful at the same time as being a hindrance. It also got me thinking about the frailties that come with aging eyes (they can be ‘fixed’- when the time is right), but for now the acuity of my vision varies with the way light falls. None of which takes away from what I wanted to convey! Action Learning is a powerful practice for gathering the collective wisdom and diverse perspectives of leaders in service of their leadership learning. Action learning works because it focuses on real life challenges, and it involves reflecting and doing, thinking and taking action. For Reg Revans, the pioneer of Action Learning- learning comes from taking action, but learning is also needed to inform our choices for action. In joining an Action Learning Set, you gift yourself the benefits of collaboration and support, and a secure space where you can share and tackle knotty issues without judgement or blame. With a set facilitator like Lisa Barry, the values of #theCentreforCharityEffectiveness at #bayesbusinessschool you will be in brilliant hands and good company.
There's still time to register and join us for the Action Learning programme, starting next week on 23 October ⏳ Join for a series of six online workshops, where you'll work with a small group of peers and nonprofit professionals to explore practical ways you can overcome your challenges and pursue new opportunities! ‼️Big news‼️ Just launched this Kickstarter project for the second book in the series! After months of hard work, Patrick is thrilled to share this with the world and help children become the next generation of creators and thinkers. Please consider a pledge to help make this a reality. Every pledge, share, and comment makes a huge difference. #kickstarter #innovation #launch #support #crowdfunding #entrepreneurship
I got a few questions from people about below Kickstarter campaign. Let me explain and answer your questions and thanks for asking. This project is created to keep the series of NOLY books available for kids. I am self-publishing and carrying all of the costs associated with that to date and I give free copies and some profits to children's charities. I am now creating the second book and will provide a copy of the first book to all who sponsor the second book "Teela and the Lulu Leaves". See the rewards section for details. Hope that clarifies. Any more questions, let me know by email pnd@patrickndaly.com or message me. https://lnkd.in/eRjuyj_4
