BPESA is grateful to Topco Media and the Sentech Africa Tech Week team for the opportunity to support last week's insightful conference and for Digital Lead, Neville Cousins to serve as an awards judge. Congratulations to all the finalists, and category winners! Key takeaways, beyond the fantastic networking and new connections, is the rapid pace of innovation in South Africa and across Africa. Application development, AI, and Data Science are leading many entrepreneurial initiatives, with a significant number being youth-led. It's also exciting to see FinTech creatively addressing many of Africa's financial challenges. Representatives from government highlighted their efforts in tackling infrastructural issues including sustainable energy and internet connectivity in underserved areas. Suggestions that more should and could be done on how to “leap-frog” the rest of the world were made by the audience.  To compete globally, a stronger focus is needed on skills development, internet access, and startup support from both government and enterprises. Digital skills development, starting from a young age in schools, was also emphasized as crucial and robust conversations around these themes were hosted. DAY 14 OF 20 DAYS CHALLENGE WITH Africa Agility Foundation Greetings dear professionals, it's been an amazing experience with Africa Agility Foundation I have been introduced to model evaluation. Model evaluation is the process of using different evaluation metrics to understand a machine learning model's performance, as well as its strengths and weaknesses. Model evaluation is important to assess the efficacy of a model during initial research phases, and it also plays a role in model monitoring. Performance Metrics: Model evaluation utilizes a range of performance metrics to assess the quality of predictions. These metrics include accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and the area under the ROC curve. Thanks to my tutor Onyekachi (Osisiogu) Emenike , also thanks to my tech support Moyinoluwa Adetola and Motunrayo Orebiyi , they've been amazing. Building on the legacy of the longstanding #LIRACompetition, we recently joined forces with #IRALebanon to embark on a journey of commercialization and business modeling. Together, we guided 25 dynamic teams consisting of researchers, faculty members, and students through this innovative journey – which falls under the Lebanon Innovate Program. Out of these brilliant minds, 12 teams have been selected to move forward into Berytech's 3-month acceleration program. Stay tuned as we unveil the 6 innovative ideas chosen to receive grants for our incubation program, focusing on the transformative sectors of ICT, healthcare, and agri-food.
