Join us on September 4 at 10 am PST / 1 pm EST for an important conversation: AAPIs: The Invisible American Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) are often overlooked by American brands and advertisers. Despite being the fastest-growing and third-largest ethnic group in the country, the AAPI community receives a mere fraction of the $659 billion spent on paid media and advertising. For every dollar spent on advertising in America, only 0.15 cents are dedicated to reaching AAPIs. This is unjustifiable in a society that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. The lack of attention and dedicated resources not only belittles our community but also has negative effects on AAPI publishers and agencies. It’s time to change this dynamic and fight for our fair share of resources. Join our webinar to learn what we must do to amplify our voices and secure the attention and respect our community deserves. As we come to the final week of AAPI Heritage Month, something feels different. I don't recall a time when so many AAPI executives proudly held their heads so high. Celebrating with so many friends and acquaintances across industries in different cities has been a revelation. New friends and old friends have been connecting and reconnecting around the country at events from Wall Street to Hollywood to the White House. What felt like a lonely journey of climbing the ranks in Corporate America for so many just a few years ago, now feels like a true community. A community that wants to lift one another up and collectively celebrate each others wins as their own. When we wrote our letter in the Wall Street Journal almost three years ago, many people were surprised (including AAPIs) by how many companies were founded by Asian Americans. So much so that I created a list of them (https://lnkd.in/gYYnAbu) to inspire others. But people were also stunned at how many Asian Americans were in leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies. So decided to compile a list of Asian American executives across industries and sectors from Sports to Entertainment to Fashion and more. While it is still far smaller than the number should be based on the workforce demographics, we should be encouraged by the progress being made, while acknowledging that there is still a lot of work to be done. My goal was to inspire people to raise the ceiling for themselves in their careers and see what is possible. You need to see what you want to be. We are raised to be humble and to keep our heads down, but we deserve to shine and celebrate our wins too. My hope is that years from now, we won’t even have to make lists like this, because they will be too long to bother writing. Until that day, we need to lift up and support more talented people to join their ranks. Proud to have so many friends on this list. In the spirit of unity and empowerment, it was nothing short of invigorating to share the stage with an array of incredibly talented AAPI (Asian American & Pacific Islanders) speakers at the first AAPI Speaker Showcase. A heartfelt thank you to John Chen for orchestrating such a pivotal platform where voices, often unheard, were amplified to resonate far and wide. Reflecting on the statistics, while women hold 26% of C-suite positions in Corporate America, women of color hold a mere 3%. When we narrow down to Asian Americans, the figure stands at 5% in C-suites, with Asian American women at less than 1%. We are, undeniably, small...tiny, in fact. But let's ponder this – maybe climbing the corporate ladder isn't everyone's ambition. Yet, who among us hasn't felt so overlooked, invisible, and ignored that the notion of giving up seemed the only option? Here lies our collective challenge and opportunity: Playing big isn't merely about individual accolades or achievements. It’s about every one of us unleashing our "mighty mouse power" to forge a future where playing big becomes the norm, not the exception. Together, we have the power to change narratives and redefine what's possible. This event was a testament to the mighty strength within the AAPI community, and I am inspired by the unity and determination showcased by each speaker: Hope Yanling Yin; Mu-Yin Chen; Ashlan Glazier-Anderson, MS, CDMP, PCM; Julie Pham, PhD; Amy C. Yip, PCC; Wendy Kleinfeldt; Joy Zhao, Ph.D, PCC; MaryAnne Bobrow; Helen Chang; Monique Le; Jen L. Skrabak, PfMP, PMP, MBA; Jim H. Lee; Van Lai-DuMone; Anna Choi; Dave Leong; Sheena Yap Chan; May Leong To all event organizers and those committed to driving change: I invite you to check out the recordings of this landmark event. Witness firsthand the powerful messages and the collective call to action for AAPI leaders to step up and step into the spotlight. Together, we are mighty. Together, we reshape the landscape of leadership and inclusion! #AAPI #Leadership #Inclusion #MightyMousePower #Empowerment #AAPIHeritageMonth

How to make successful campaigns 'Of the Women, By the Women, For the Women' ? People living with disabilities often find themselves the unwanted centre of attention, constantly reminded of their condition by the stares of strangers. As heads turn to watch them, even children may look on with fear, not understanding the person behind the disability. This ongoing scrutiny can feel isolating, turning daily life into a series of painful reminders. Yet, beneath their ailments, they are just like us, filled with dreams, hopes, and aspirations that mirror our own. As part of this campaign, Mia showcases Sheetal Devi’s inspiring story. The campaign starts with scenes of people staring at her with curiosity and awe. The film's tagline “Dekhna hai toh mera khel dekho” aims at showcasing Devi's talent in archery, urging viewers to focus on her skills rather than her appearance. 🛑 Empowering Message: - The campaign's core message is to shift our focus from disabilities to abilities, from appearance to achievements, and from judgment to acceptance. 🛑 Visual Storytelling: - The visuals in the campaign capture the essence of Sheetal Devi’s journey, her resilience, and her exceptional skills in archery. 🛑 Inspiring Narration: - The narration encourages viewers to celebrate the talent and spirit of people living with disabilities, urging society to see beyond physical appearances. Mia by Tanishq’s “Dekhna Hai Toh Khel Dekho” campaign is a powerful reminder that everyone deserves to be seen for who they truly are. By highlighting the incredible achievements of Sheetal Devi, Mia encourages us all to change our perspectives and celebrate the strength, talent, and humanity in everyone. #DekhnaHaiTohKhelDekho #MiaByTanishq #CelebrateTalent #InclusionMatters #SheetalDevi https://lnkd.in/gm57QisV

One frustration in the DEI space? Vague, abstract knowledge. For Diversity, Equality and Inclusion strategies and plans to be successful, we all need to start talking and writing in concrete terms. Earlier this week I shared my insights with the DIAN network (Community Business) through a regional APAC lens. Together, we dissected evaluation approaches, gained actionable insights, and enhanced practices. Thank you to everyone involved for engaging with the case studies and posing the question – what is powerful data? You've inspired my next talk that will focus on: 1) What does powerful persuasive data in DEI look like? 2) And how can I collect powerful data? This was a closed event, but don't fret! I've popped my slides and the case studies I used on my website that you can access and use freely. https://lnkd.in/gA6Jezpw

Happy Pi Day, Geeks! 🥧 Our favorite excuse (not that we need one! 🤣) to indulge in pie while recognizing the never-ending, non-repeating nature of the mathematical constant π — the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, roughly equal to 3.14159. ✨ Similar to pi, DEI is an ongoing journey with endless possibilities and cycles within our world. And during Women's History Month, we're highlighting our persistence and continuous mission to create a more equitable and just society, starting within the workplace. 🙌 A well-rounded DEI approach is like Pi, irrational to ignore and infinite in value. So, it's important to highlight the need for change throughout March, but we also have to make sure our efforts go beyond just one month by baking them into everything we do. 🧑🍳 Today, let's eat pie, perfect our recipe for meaningful change, and continue the ongoing work! 👏 Description: Illustration of a windowsill with a pie, books, and a plant on it. The pie has a symbol of the mathematical constant pi on it. At the top it's titled "Happy Pi Day" followed by small text "March 14, 2024" in maroon. Below it reads "A well-rounded DEI approach is like Pi, irrational to ignore and infinite in value," in dark gray bold text. At the bottom is our username "@shegeeksout" to the left and the SGO logo to the right in maroon. #PiDay #314 #Pie #InclusiveWorkplaces #WorkplaceInclusion #WorkplaceEquality #WorkplaceEquity #Inclusion #Inclusivity #DEI #DiversityandInclusion #DiversityEquityInclusion #SGO #SheGeeksOut

It was incredibly heartening to be part of the Changing Lives and Agenda Alliance Transforming Together network meeting today. Well. First things first. It was distressing to learn the extent to which North East women have been disproportionately affected by the triple whammy of austerity + covid + the cost of living crisis and its knock-on impact on women's services, leading to: - 76% of women in need of domestic abuse support in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear missing out on these services - a mortality rate 1.7 times higher than for England and Wales as a whole These are hugely sobering numbers. But what was heartening was the will to proactivity and compassion spearheaded by the incredible Laura McIntyre together with Nia Clark, drawing together a deeply committed pool of North East professionals working to improve outcomes for women with the most complex needs, who often fall through the cracks of society's safety net, experiencing repeat victimisation and trauma, in part due to the gendered stigma surrounding those who do not conform to our stereotypes of the "deserving" female victim. If you ever look on the state of the world and feel like you want to turn away because it's all too awful, know that there are kind, compassionate, committed people, keen to come together, work out how services can collaborate better and proactively overcome the barriers to engaging those at the very sharp end of life. I'm looking forward to seeing where these conversations go and whether there is a way we can support the service transformation sought with our creative approach to creating learning opportunities. https://lnkd.in/dm9-JB7V
