What Topgolf did was play welcome disrupter to an industry that needed it and was the start of the indoor boom - that has refined itself now in many ways. However, where the initial premise was that they might introduce golfers and proficient golfers might actually practice there - the reality is it is at the end of the day it is an 'Entertainment Facility that Features Golf' not the other way round. The issues start in any business when you try to be all things to all people and lose sight of your brands true mission. The first clue I had on going to TopGolf the first time was the equipment was not just bad it was AWFUL as a proficient golfer (didn't do Callaway Golf any favors on marketing their clubs and I play some Callaway) - because I went under the impression from the marketing message - I would be able to hit balls proficiently in a fun atmosphere. All I got from the experience was frustration - because I went in under the wrong premise. If I thought it was going to be more Dave & Buster's with golf just for fun - I would have had a different attitude. The comments below too are not wrong - for a golfer that wants a true 'golf' experience it is too expensive. For a night out of giggles or a corporate event - it's great. There is room for the concept to exist and grow but they need to decide what they really want to be and stay on message. Indoor golf continues to grow in the Australia, and again this year we are presenting the Virtual Road to the PGA - together with PGA of Australia. With three handicaps groups there is an opportunity for everybody to participate and potentially win access to play Royal Queensland Golf Club - the Sunday before the Pros play the 2024 BMW Australia PGA Championship. Its a unique opportunity, as the course will be in tournament condition, the grandstands will be set up and so will the signage.
