Read an article in EAT this morning about the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) concerns with GDPR compliance in the housing sector. (Link to the article and free training from Propertymark at the end). After spending more than a year talking to estate agents up and down the country about how they handle their clients, there are a couple of quick wins agents could implement today: 1️⃣ Make sure you have a privacy policy and provide a copy alongside your contracts. 2️⃣ Keep a record of active consent to your privacy policy I.e. Joanne and Joe Bloggs both ticked the "I've read your privacy policy and consent" box. 3️⃣ Make sure you get active consent from ALL clients, including buyers and renters. Easily overlooked as it's hard to manage this in the absence of a contract between an agency and a buyer/renter. 4️⃣ Don't let your staff hold your clients' personal information on their personal devices, e.g., the valuer taking a picture of ID docs (or at least have a process in place to check and delete this info periodically). All of these points can be solved by tech (we automate all this for agents with Kotini), BUT it doesn't need tech, just an awareness of the rules and good processes in place. Happy to chat with any agents more about this. Just drop me a line. Link to the article: https://lnkd.in/eyiH5ieh Link to the free training from Propertymark: https://lnkd.in/erkaPpjY P.s. It won't just be agents that the ICO talks about here; some brokers and conveyancers will be in a similar situation.
