The oldest suspension railway, a real engineering marvel from 1901 The remarkable suspension railway in Wuppertal, Germany, is a stunning feat of engineering that was inaugurated 123 years ago! Its creator, Eugen Langen, proposed the idea of constructing a railway suspended over the river Wupper as a more convenient option to traveling on the congested roads of Wuppertal.
