Let's talk about #bots and their business implications... Did you know that ~44% of the #internet traffic is not human? Bots represent a huge portion of the requests according to #Cloudflare #Radar. 🤖 Good #bots: Search engine crawlers, feed fetchers, and monitoring bots that improve website visibility and performance. Not all #bots are bad #bots; however, good #bots only represent ~4.5% of the total traffic. 🤖 Bad #bots: growing at almost 10% year-over-year (YoY), these bad bots can really hurt your internet properties. Most common #bot #attacks are: 🔑 #Credential #Stuffing: Bots relentlessly attempt to access accounts using stolen credentials from the dark web. According to research, up to 70% of login traffic is automated & not human. 🛒 #Inventory #Hoarding: Bots swiftly grab limited inventory, leaving excited customers frustrated and less likely to return to your online store. 💳 #Credit #Card #Stuffing: Bots validate stolen credit card details from the dark web, leading to fraudulent purchases and financial losses for merchants. Did you suspect that you might be affected by bots? We can share our best practices to fortify your defense against bots. Let's connect!

Neil Sweeney has a great term for those companies who your family and friends (not in ad tech) have never heard of and who also have access to your personal data. I would add one point to his prediction. If you are a company who is working with a ‘headless’ data company and handing over control (control that you cannot get back) you also should be concerned. And you also have options to maintain control and protect your most critical asset: your trusted relationship with your consumer. The industry has relied on a legacy system of moving highly personal data between parties through a series of intermediaries. It’s a system that cannot stand up to new privacy regulation, changes in browser technology, deprecation of outdated identifiers, and moves from technology giants to protect customer data. Time’s up.
I coined the term (or at least I think I did.. 🤷♂️ ) of 'headless' data companies a number of years ago. What is this? A headless data company is a data company with no consumer front end or UX. Think data brokers and large data management platforms. The AdTech industry has been dominated by these firms that amalgamate data with no inclusion or knowledge by the consumer. Their ability to manage opt-in and opt-out is zero. They have no way to communicate with consumers whose data they hold, which puts them on a collision course with privacy regulators who require specific data verticals to have 'consent.' If you are a 'headless' data company, it's inevitable that you will likely 1. be sued (you are an easy target for AGs who are looking to protect consumers) 2. be hacked (too many profiles in one centralized spot), 3. Fined (by privacy regulators). It's increasingly unlikely that you can operate as a 'headless' data company in '24 and beyond. Reklaim
