With 1 in 5 women and 1 in 12 men experiencing pelvic pain, you’d expect it to be a healthcare priority, but historically that hasn’t been the case. Pelvic health impacts nearly every aspect of our lives, from basic bodily functions to the processes that allow us to exist, yet it was largely neglected until about 30 years ago due to taboos and medical bias. Fortunately, this is changing thanks to pioneers like Janet Drake Whalen, PT DPT, whom I’m thrilled to feature on the Beyond the Health Bias Podcast. With over 30 years of experience as a Physiotherapist specialising in pelvic and abdominal health, Janet has transformed countless lives and is one of the “OGs” of the pelvic health field. Despite progress, she often finds herself having to challenge other medical professionals who still overlook the significance of pelvic health. This episode explores Janet’s journey through the evolving field of pelvic health, the advancements made over the past 30 years, ongoing gaps in care and the future direction of the field, patient advocacy strategies, and Janet’s advice for aspiring pelvic health physical therapists as she mentors the next generation. Janet is one of the most passionate and insightful experts I’ve met. Don’t miss this episode! 🎙Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gM6fCv5W #pelvichealth #pelvicpain #chronicpain #healthcommunications #healthpodcast

🌟 Redefining Women’s Pelvic Health 🌟 For too long, women’s pelvic health has been overlooked in medical research and practice, despite its profound impact on overall well-being. Did you know that it can take 7-10 years for women to receive a proper diagnosis for conditions like endometriosis? Or that pelvic health remains one of the most underfunded areas in healthcare? Our focus is clear: to bring about comprehensive reform in how women’s pelvic health is understood, valued, and prioritized. This means: • Advancing research and innovation in pelvic health. • Ensuring equitable access to specialized care for all women. • Revamping medical training to promote understanding and respect. 📢 This work is not only about improving healthcare but about creating a future where women’s health is given the attention, respect, and investment it truly deserves. Visit the Resource Hub at www.alenajera.com for an in-depth guide and learn more about the steps being taken to build a more inclusive and compassionate healthcare landscape. Note from the Founder & President “As women, we carry the foundation of life and well-being, yet for too long, the importance of our pelvic health has been relegated to the margins. I am dedicated to leading a thoughtful and strategic transformation, one that ensures women’s pelvic health is recognized, respected, and treated with the highest level of care. Through continued advocacy, innovation, and a commitment to equity, we are shaping a future where women’s health is at the forefront of every conversation and action within the healthcare system.” – Ale Najera, Founder & President #PelvicHealthMatters #WomenInHealthcareLeadership #EquityInCare #EndometriosisAwareness #HealthcareReform #WellnessForWomen #SystemicChange #EmpowermentThroughHealth

We’ve provided an update on two important issues relating to our fitness to practise processes, including what we are doing to reduce the impacts our investigations can have on the health and wellbeing of participants. Our Executive Director, Stefan Czerniawski, describes the work we are doing on concerns raised by a coroner about the level of detail provided in determinations made by the Interim Orders Committee, and our commitment to report the cause of death of dental professionals where there is an active fitness to practise investigation. These are complex and sensitive issues that speak to the need to support dental professionals, public interest in the investigations we undertake and trust in the regulatory system. We know that they need to be approached with care and an understanding of how they affect people, which is why we want to explain the work that's underway. https://lnkd.in/gbM5yxqK
