Take #lacticacid, a vital raw material for biodegradable plastics, such as those found in everyday items like bags, cutlery, and packaging. We have partnered with OMZ for over 10 years, supporting them in developing technologies that convert corn starch into bioplastics using ion exchange technology. In 2020, OMZ expanded its innovative #ionexchange systems to help reduce water usage and halve sewage discharge. Our Diaphragm Valves DIASTAR provide excellent flow characteristics. OMZ was able to use the smaller DN50 valves to downsize equipment, reduce raw material needs, and optimize production. The result? Over 5,000 GF valves deployed, elevating OMZ's customers’ systems to a more sustainable, efficient level while ensuring leak-free performance. This is just one example of how GF is contributing to a smarter, more sustainable future. Loop CO2 is a sustainability-focused polymer development startup headquartered in Massachusetts. Founded in 2022 as a spin-out from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities & the NSF Center for Sustainable Polymers, Loop CO2 began its mission to revolutionize sustainable materials. Backed by the Department of Energy STTR Phase II & MassVentures Grant, and working in collaboration with UMN, we're committed to developing CO2- and biomass-derived products with chemical recyclability, biodegradability, and negative carbon emissions during production. We at #Valmet are delighted to be part of an ecosystem project, collaborating with Aalto University and other industrial companies in Finland. Our goal is to develop a reliable and consistent method for quantifying the environmental impacts of our valves, pumps and relevant components throughout the lifecycle of our products. This project, called Data-Driven Design for Sustainability, will enhance transparency in environmental sustainability reporting and strengthen sustainability as an integral part of R&D efforts. The project’s outcomes will include the Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) of our products, as well as the first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for our flow control offering, which will be approved by a certified third-party. The project is part of Valmet’s Beyond Circularity program, which aims to support our customer industries in their shift to carbon neutrality and facilitate the green transition.
