1 in 5 Local Authorities say they will issue a Section 114 notice soon, effectively making them bankrupt and handing control of budgets to external commissioners, just like in #Birmingham. Local services, contracts and grants will be affected. As will valued community assets such as buildings and parks. What can you do about it? Some useful resources here from Locality https://lnkd.in/ei7HHAKV #LocalAuthorities #resources #councilfinances #communityassets

The federal government will tip billions of dollars into building new homes in this week's federal budget, as it chases a promise to build 1.2 million new homes by 2030. $1 billion will be spent on crisis and transitional accommodation for women and children fleeing family violence and for youth through the National Housing Infrastructure Facility. The facility's scope was broadened to be able to fund social and affordable housing, as well as enabling infrastructure, and $700 million of the stepped-up funding will be dedicated to supporting crisis and transitional housing #federalbudget#australianpropertymarket#newhome#houseprice#sydneyrealestate#anthonyalbanese

Local governments can play a crucial role in addressing the American housing crisis. One simple, practical way local governments can improve the quality of life for their citizens through reducing the burden of housing costs is to repurpose vacant or underutilized properties for affordable housing. Key Steps for Local Governments: 1. Property Assessment: Identify vacant or underutilized properties within the community. 2. Zoning Reforms: Adjust zoning laws to allow for residential use in these areas. 3. Public-Private Partnerships: Work with developers and non-profits to convert these properties into affordable housing units. 4. Funding and Incentives: Provide financial incentives, such as low-interest loans or grants, to support redevelopment projects. The greater the number of affordable housing units that are a part of the project, the greater the amount of financial incentives available to the developers. By transforming unused commercial or industrial spaces into affordable housing, local governments can have positive and significant impact on the housing crisis. #AffordableHousing #HousingCrisis #LocalGovernment
