“Invest in girls and watch it change the world.” #CSW68 has been an incredibly informative two weeks. I needed to practice my "How to deal with overwhelm skills" as there was so much I "Should!" attend but I loved what I did attend and will focus and celebrate those learnings, rather than what I couldn't attend. It was a huge event with so much powerful content. There is no doubt that we still have a long way to go before we’re living in a world where all genders share equal rights, safety and freedom. However, we also felt an immense hope and solidarity as thousands of people have pledged their commitment to ending gender inequality across the world, starting with investment. What does it mean to invest in women? What does it actually mean to shift the focus of global economic output towards women? According to CSW68 Investing in Women looks like: * Equal pay * Preventing workplace discrimination * Improving access to education * More paid jobs in care services * More women in decision-making positions * Support grassroots organisations The good news is that "when women win, everyone wins". If we invest in women men can: * Experience longer lasting peace * Spend more time with their children * Experience greater job opportunities * Have more flexibility in the workplace * Experience less poverty * Take on less responsibility for women and girls who would instead have greater autonomy Takeaways from amazing CSW68 guests: CSW68 asked this year’s guests to share their highlights and insights from the past two weeks. This is what they’ve been talking about: * The energy and determination from inspiring speakers that have empowered us to take action and speak up too. * The sense of hope hearing success stories from countries like Norway, Iceland, Poland and Switzerland. * Women’s empowerment is not a zero-sum game, everybody wins! * The wealth of information and stats we can use to educate ourselves and others * All of the connections that being involved in CSW opens up * We are all needed to make a difference, but there is not one way to be an activist and we can all find our own path within the broader framework. * Intersectionality is a significant issue and we must address unique experiences. * Seeing that real change is possible, and we can make it happen. Thank you CSW68 organisers, @UN Women UK, and @Atonte Semira for a fantastic event. #UNWomenUK #undelegate #UNWomenDelegate #femaleempowerment
