In one of our #YesIcan outreaches for secondary schools in Lagos State, I arrived at an interesting conclusion.
During the outreach, a group of SS3 students were asked to talk about their future career aspirations, just like the norm, majority of them chorused Doctor, Scientist, Engineer etc. However, one young boy said he will like to become a politician, boldly ignoring the echo of disapproval from his classmates. Intrigued by his intrepidity, I asked the boy to step forward and give us a sample manifesto for his forthcoming election.
What wowed us was not just his boldness, but his thought articulation, communication coherence and electrifying speech, despite being put on the spot.
Then, I concluded that one of, if not the greatest resource that #Nigeria has is the raw quality of its talents. We are truly blessed with good talents.
These raw talents are seen all around us - young boys who play football in the streets of Lagos with so much dexterity without being trained in any formal football academy. Children who sings and dances skillfully without attending any music school. Kids who creates beautiful arts without being taught the basic rudiments of arts. Young traders in Alaba market with intelligent business acumen. Auto mechanics in Ladipo market who redesign cars without looking through the car manual.
Inherently, an average #Nigerian is skilfully endowed, and this is not a breaking news. The question is, how are we exploring this feat? With the natural skills we possess and the strength of our population, we can confidently produce without struggle, the next generation of world giants in different spheres of endeavours - Entertainment, Sports, Agriculture, Engineering, Academia etc.
This takes more than wishful thinking. It requires an intentional development of our Human Capital, designing a mentoring support system for bright and talented kids, supporting smart business ideas, investing into, and encouraging extra curricular activities in our schools. The list is endless, you can add yours in the comment section.
With the level of natural talents we have in this country, hiring managers should not be struggling to get the right fit for their vacant roles.
Nigeria is a goldmine of raw talents, we need the right tools, systems and processes to refine them to a state of wealthy value.

7moSmart school project launch while teachers are on strike because of their demand for good terms of service. If teachers are not empowered what impact will this project bring. Teachers laptop came with a whole lot of challenges. As you start this project, a lot of teachers have not received laptops that had been deducted from their salary for a close to two years hmmmm. Trained teachers have passed NTLE but are still home without any motivational release to calm nerves. After all these smart smart smart are they also going to stay in house to add up the burden of the parents.
