The control of the water level in the boiler is managed by controlling a relay with two  contacts for controlling the pump and the filling solenoid valve at the same time. At the first start-up, when the level probe is uncovered by the water, the pump and the filling solenoid valve are activated using the two contacts relay. The relay remains active until the water level reaches the probe, at which point with a 3 second delay the pump and valve are  deactivated. The system remains inactive until the water level drops below the probe level for at least 3 seconds, at which point the pump and valve are activated. “Availability and accuracy of black liquor flow data pose a major challenge in pulp cooking, and is not just related to older outdated equipment. Also new installations can soon need replacement. Digesters are a tough environment for inline sensors, with high temperatures, high pressures and cooking fluids that often coat pipe internals and flow sensors with calcium carbonate scaling. Loss of flow data from failing inline sensors is an obvious problem and can cause production downtime. But in between failures another big problem is drifting flow sensors, something that is difficult to detect for cooking operators. Digester control is intricate and reliable flow readings are amongst the most important input data. Suffering gradual long term drifts here are offsetting the cooking process, causing production limitations and quality problems on the finished pulp”.
