🤖 The AI hype is unquestionably real. In the current state, AI is comparable to blockchain: it is a solution looking for a problem. As a result of the immense hype, it's challenging to say you're an AI-focused company without sounding like you're part of a bandwagon. Saying so in the moment doesn't allow much opportunity to provide necessary details. Freight Right is an AI-foward company. However, our AI-uses are focused to a select set of operations. ❌ Where We Don't Use AI: ❌ ❌ We don't use automated chatbots. We’ve always thought user-first. And if the user has to enter the same data into a chatbot that they would enter into a pricing tool to generate a quote, then they’ll just use the pricing tool. It’s a more natural format, and they can use it with greater confidence. Similarly, if your chatbot asks the user to enter a tracking number to give them the same results they’d get on the tracking page—with the same number of keystrokes—then we don’t see any value in that. ❌ We’ve also stayed away from account payable automations. There is some model training involved, where the system learns to identify the fields needed to match invoices to jobs, but it’s more of a traditional algorithmic solution or, at best, a minor AI use case that represents an evolution, not revolution. ❌ We chose not to purchase a solution that suggests sell rates. This kind of model would have to be trained on our own customer data. It also felt impersonal and somewhat insensitive to our customers, as well as to our account managers, who work hard to build relationships and partner with clients. AI solutions in this space tend to focus on optimizing conversion and/or margin. We can’t yet envision a model that would learn to genuinely care about a customer’s logistics spend. ✅ Where We Do Apply AI Processes: ✅ 1. Customer satisfaction 2. Increased efficiency and 3. Reduced costs One of the battles we constantly fight is rate management. Rate management is a key challenge for forwarders, especially those handling high volumes across various trade lanes. While traditional transpacific forwarders don’t require complex solutions, managing rates for multiple services like trucking and freight across different regions is difficult to automate. AI is now helping address this issue. Additionally, our team spends significant time auditing rates and contracts, where AI is also being tested to reduce manual work. Our staff spends countless hours auditing rates and contracts, where AI is also being tested to reduce manual work. We've fostered a culture of experimentation, often partnering with startups to test new ideas that improve customer experience, efficiency, and reduce costs. If a solution aligns with our principles and is non-invasive, we'll support its development. Our employees are encouraged to experiment to find new ways to improve operations.
