🚀 Reflecting on the Final Innovation Hour of the Year: Future-Fit Civic Tech 🌍💡 Last week, I had the privilege of speaking at the Western Cape Government Innovation Hour on the topic of Future-Fit Civic Tech. What an inspiring session to end the year! 🙌 The Western Cape Government's adoption of a design thinking approach to solving citizen needs has been nothing short of transformative. From meeting citizens where they are, fostering internal collaboration, and co-creating a new citizen-focused website, their work is a shining example of innovation in action. Seeing local government embrace user-centric approaches and make tangible, impactful changes has been truly amazing to watch. A special shoutout to Marcus Rance for organising this incredible session and to the dynamic leadership of Egsaan Samaai (Acting CIO), Aslam Levy, Luqmaan Essa, and Vuyo Ntombovuyo Klaas for their contributions to this success. Your efforts are paving the way for a brighter future! 👏 During my session, I shared some must-haves for customer engagement and research: ✅ Constant Feedback Loops ✅ Making Data-Driven decisions ✅ Clear Product Vision ✅ Continuous Learning ✅ Experimentation ✅ Agility It was also an honour to share the virtual stage with Cat Denoon-Stevens from Mukuru, who delivered powerful insights into their customer-first approach and innovative solutions like using WhatsApp for financial services and empowering agents in rural areas. 🧡 Her presentation was a masterclass in blending high-tech and high-touch solutions to drive impact. 💬 Reflecting on this journey, I’m reminded of my brief but impactful conversation with Marcus at Africa Tech Festival in 2023.
