@senateconsulting were delighted to present to #Rapleysproperty and recently #cushmanandwakefield the Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations 2023 and the differences between Ideology and Reality learned from our field experiences since appointment and the learning experiences from Rapleys and Cushman and Wakefield. The OFSC has published the WHS Accreditation Scheme Audit Criteria: Residential Builders’ Guide to assist residential builders seeking FSC accreditation. It provides detailed guidance on the audit criteria likely to be most relevant on residential projects and ranks the criteria on how difficult previously accredited companies have found them to meet. The OFSC supports the Federal Safety Commissioner to administer and promote the benefits of the Australian Government Building and Construction Work Health and Safety Accreditation Scheme. We use the Scheme to improve work health and safety practices on Australian building and construction sites. Our aim is to ensure everyone goes home safe, every day. ❓What is the Scheme? The Scheme enables the Australian Government to use its influence as a major construction client to drive safety in the industry. In order to be a head contractor on an Australian Government funded project, you’ll usually need to be accredited with us. To become Scheme accredited, you must meet several requirements including having a robust safety system and participating in regular audits. On average, Scheme accredited companies have lower incident rates and workers’ compensation premiums. As of October 2024, there are over 590 individual companies accredited! ❓What else do we do? At the OFSC, we’re committed to increasing safety industry-wide. We use our data and insights to create resources to help people working in the building and construction industry. Chamber Strategy Document Presentation Industry Stakeholders- UHM Voice of the Workers Health and safety in the construction industry were on the agenda of a recent meeting held between UHM Voice of the Workers CEO Josef Vella and the President of the Malta Chamber of Construction Management Jesmond Chetcuti. Though the Chamber was set up to safeguard the interests and raise the managerial and supervisory levels in construction, this cannot be achieved unless the same leaders take proper care of the workers under their responsibility. Both sides agreed that apart from their obligations and responsibilities towards the developer or the owner of the project that employs them, they have an even greater duty and responsibility towards the wellbeing of every worker under their responsibility. This is one of the main reasons why all members should attend the health and safety course at a professional level and not just the basic one. The Professional Level Course will provide some insight on how supervisors should behave and how they should approach health and safety on construction sites. During this meeting, emphasis was laid on the importance of Skill Cards in the construction industry. UHM is in favour of the mandatory introduction of such measures as it leads to a higher level of expertise as well as improving health and safety in construction sites. Also, a great session on managing key business risks chaired by Tracey Hartley with panellist Jaclyn Mangaroo MCIM, Cassandra Zanelli, Charles Seifert, James Aldrich-Blake and Alec Guthrie. It was interesting to hear a more holistic discussion on multiple topics, including building safety, reputation, staffing, wellbeing, and financial risks. It reminded me of my own risk education on how businesses can truly benefit from using an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) integrated framework approach for managing risks across an organisation, especially during challenging times. #TPIConf24 #riskmanagement #enterpriseriskmanagement #propertymanagement #buildingsafety
