The Lagging KPIs and the Leading KPIs in hotel sales In hotel sales we often focus of 02 KPIs which are the Lagging KPIs and the Leading KPIs to measure how good a sales person is. Lagging KPIs could be lead conversion rate (most acceptable conversion would be 20%) meaning if quoting 10 leads they should be able to get 2 confirmed. Lagging KPI can also be the revenue performance which is total revenue achieved compared to budget. However when looking at these KPIs it is already too late meaning leads already lost and revenue could be already lagging behind the budget so there comes its name. On the other side, Leading KPIs could be the total number of their daily sales call, number of inspection and ENTs made, how many networking events they have joined, how many clients birthdays have they paid attention to and send them even just a small gifts. Oftenly if Leading KPIs are good then there so are the lagging ones. Even it might sound that the leading KPIs are the ones we should often be looking at to ensure we don’t fail in the near future and even if we failed we knew that we have done our best but in fact both are equally important. It is just that things should be looked at from different angles and keeping both in check will ensure the consistent and healthy sales team performance.

Whenever I find some free time, I often meet up with friends deeply embedded in the hotel industry, working as Sales Managers and Directors of Sales. These gatherings provide a valuable opportunity for us to delve into various aspects of sales and marketing. However, there's one point of contention: their persistent reliance on traditional sales approaches, particularly the emphasis on sales calls to drive hotel sales. While I cherish our discussions on sales and marketing strategies, I can't help but disagree with their steadfast adherence to outdated methods. In my opinion, it's high time for Sales Managers and Directors to consider updating their approaches or perhaps invest in sales courses to adapt to the evolving landscape of the industry. Embracing new methodologies could be the key to unlocking untapped potentials and staying ahead in the competitive realm of hotel sales. #marketing

Revenue management in 2024. My career in Horel sales spawned 40 years. 1975 to 2015. So, I experienced hotel sales before, in transition to full implementation of Rev. Management. My question is, is the hotel sales effort better today then before Rev. Management? Is the customer being served? Has RevPar improved? Is the booking PACE better? I do not think hotels are any better off today then they were pre Rev. Management! What do you think?
