How Hiking Trails and Railways Can Inspire Innovation
One of my favorite childhood memories is hiking with my family through ancient trails near my hometown. Years later, I discovered that these paths were part of a project to preserve our local history. It made me think: how many other communities have untold stories waiting to be shared?
On this week’s InnovEU episode, historian Kristoff Tony reveals how projects focused on hiking trails and railway heritage are more than just nostalgia—they’re tools for cultural innovation. By preserving our past, we can inspire new ways to think about our future.

Rethinking Love and Partnership ❤️
It's time we reimagine love not just as an emotion, but as an active partnership.
True love flourishes when it is grounded in mutual growth and understanding. It's not about possession, but about giving each other the space to evolve. As Rumi beautifully said, "Love is the bridge between you and everything."
Let's celebrate the power of partnership, where love is dynamic, evolving, and resilient. Embrace the impermanence of life and relationships, and allow love to ebb and flow naturally.
Join the Marine Foundation in promoting a more conscious and connected world. Together, we can build stronger partnerships and foster a culture of love and growth.

🌊 Why I decided to develop an impact storytelling project about the Baltic Sea?
The Baltic Sea is more than a body of water - it's a living system, deeply connected to the cultures, communities, and scientists working to understand and protect it.
As a storyteller, I believe there’s an opportunity to shift the narrative from just another environmental issue to something more human-centered.
🔍 What will be my perspective?
My perspective is one that balances edge with humanity, science with culture, and conflict with resilience. I’ll look at the fishermen navigating changing seas, scientists tirelessly researching, and the cultural traditions that have been passed down through generations. This isn’t just about the sea’s problems, it’s about the people who fight for it, live by it, and depend on it—showing their passions, conflicts, and sacrifices.
Heini Feodorow Would like to connect about this project with you, perhaps some connection points in the future.

In today's episode of the Superpowers for Good show, I had the pleasure of speaking with Abby Rapoport, the cofounder and publisher of Stranger's Guide. Abby's vision for the publication stems from a simple yet profound idea: to make the world feel smaller and more interconnected by focusing on the unique, yet universal aspects of different locales.
Abby shared, "We started Stranger's Guide to create a publication that was rooted in the idea of place and exploring how different places feel to those people who are living there." She continued, "What does it mean for the individual who's going to work, taking their kids to school, making dinner? We aim to dig into what all of those big global themes mean for daily life."
The essence of Stranger's Guide lies in its commitment to telling the stories of a place through the eyes of those who know it best—the local writers and photographers. Each issue is a deep dive into a single location, crafted by at least 80% of contributors from that area. This approach ensures that the narrative remains authentic and grounded in the community's lived experiences.
Stranger's Guide isn't just about the exotic or the familiar; it's about bridging the gap between them. It offers readers a multifaceted portrait of a place, mixing human rights, history, sports, and culture to enrich our understanding of the world. It's about seeing the big picture and the tiny, essential details through a lens that respects and values every culture's unique contributions and challenges.
By reading Stranger's Guide, we don't just learn about different parts of the world; we connect with them on a human level. It's a reminder that despite our differences, we share common threads—family, work, joy, struggle. This connection fosters empathy and, ultimately, a more compassionate worldview.
In essence, Abby's work with Stranger's Guide serves as a powerful reminder of journalism's role in society—not just to inform but to connect us. By focusing on the universal yet unique experiences of communities around the globe, Abby and her team invite us to celebrate our shared humanity. This, indeed, is journalism as a form of superpower, the kind that nurtures understanding and respect across borders.

Why I Say Reconnection Instead of Connection
People often ask why I use the term reconnection when discussing cultural identity. For me, it’s simple: our heritage is already a part of us—even if we feel disconnected from it.
Reconnection is the journey of reclaiming what has always been ours. It means going back to the roots that may have become distant, whether due to migration, generational gaps, or personal experiences. It’s not about discovering something new; it’s about reestablishing bonds with something that's always been there.
Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots for the first time or diving deeper into what you already know, my mission is to help people rediscover their heritage—unapologetically.
This is why my book is called Rediscovering Your Roots. It’s an invitation to give yourself permission to reconnect, grow, and take pride in who you are—and who you’ve always been.
If you're interested in learning more about cultural heritage reconnection and you're in the DC area, I'd love for you to join me at the launch of my book, Rediscovering Your Roots, on October 10th!
