Is Fashion an art form, i.e. an artistic discipline, precisely does it need to inspire itself from art? As Yves Saint Laurent once famously stated: “Fashion is not an art but needs an artist to exist.” A more topical question for Luxury fashion going forward is the dosage between what most intrinsically defines Fashion, i.e. its artistry, how and why it’s created, and what essentially defines Luxury above all, i.e. its artisanship, how it’s made and why. In other words, traditions vs. modernity incl. when it comes to brand’s aesthetics and design codes, i.e. the work and only the work, i.e. what it means incl. inspiration and spectacle vs. the work behind the work, i.e. what it takes incl. materials and techniques.
