This week is #menshealthweek. The theme for this year is: Men don't talk. The day after King Charles announced that he had a problem with an enlarged prostate, there were 16,410 visits to the relevant National Health Service website page compared with 1,414 visits the previous day. Prostate Cancer UK saw an almost doubling in the numbers of users of its online risk checker. The shocking statistics tell us why Men’s Health Week is so important: * One man in five dies before the age of 65. * 115 people die by suicide in the UK every week – with 75% of those deaths being male (ONS) * More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in the UK on average – that's 144 men every day. (Prostate Cancer UK) * 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime (Prostate Cancer UK) * Only 36% of all NHS referrals for psychological therapies are for men. Men are less likely to seek help for their mental health. (Mental Health UK) As Investors in People, Gold Award holders, we acknowledge that our people are our most important asset; offering support in many different forms, with ongoing training and a safe and happy working environment just a few of the reasons why. #construction #mhw24 #menshealth #mentalhealthatwork #prostatecancer #healthinconstruction #MensHealth #SuicidePrevention #ProstateCancerAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #youarenotalone

Great to see as I do my daily review on the invisible risk survey replies that 11% of responses are from our colleagues in Ireland. 94% of all respondent have served between 20-40 years. 10% at diagnosis sit in the age group 20-30. 11% of replies indicate blood cancers. For staff still serving 40% feel the service, organisation could do more. 22% of replies stated they were BA instructors 74% of respondents felt they would possibly have benefitted from mental health support. 23% felt unsupported by their GP/ Doctor, that seems poor to me but does reflect my own experience, one doctor saying to me on my prostate cancer, “it’s the one to have” 68% have not heard of the SNOMED codes, clearly much more needs to be done to ensure these are used and all the NHS use them, not just Some areas. Finally for today,85% indicated in reply either by yes or maybe that early screening would have benefitted them.

Anybody seen Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday? We're coming to the end of men's health awareness week. This year the initiative places emphasis on prostate health. "On the day after his announcement (King Charles), there were 16,410 visits to the relevant National Health Service website page compared with 1,414 visits the previous day. Prostate Cancer UK saw an almost doubling in the numbers of users of its online risk checker. This goes to show the difference that honest sharing can make" One of the areas I specialise in within the Health Coaching remit is cancer, and using health coaching methodologies to support people who have received a diagnosis. I've worked with 2 men in the last 12 months with prostate cancer so I know a lot about it from their personal perspectives. No two stories are the same. Let me tell you - they wish they had the reach of King Charles has in terms of raising awareness, encouraging conversations and removing stigma. So men, on behalf of my 2 clients - please familiarise yourselves as a top priority! Ask your colleagues, neighbours, family - "have you been checked? "Are you aware of the symptoms and that stats?". Employers and business owners, is this topic part of your health and well-being offering? Raising awareness, talks, panel discussions? I encourage you to add it, if it's not already. We're all responsible for raising awareness at our level. No need to be shy about it, just ask. Your ask may save the future course & direction of another persons life. Go now ...... #ProstateCancer #ProstatHealth #HealthCoach #CancerCoach #CancerInTheWorkplace #WorkplaceWellbeing #MensHealth2024

Meet Geraldine (right). Her story highlights the importance of preventative care and early detection, especially during National Minority Health Month. As an African American, Geraldine faced a higher risk of developing cancer due to disparities in access to health care. She had a lung screening when our lung coach made a stop in her community; that screening led to the discovery of a small mass on her lung. Because the cancer was detected early, it was treatable. Geraldine's experience is a testament to the life-saving power of screenings. She urges everyone, especially those at higher risk, to schedule their lung (and other) screenings today. "Sometimes, you're afraid and want to let fear run your life," said Geraldine, explaining how she felt when she got the news. "But you've got to step in and take charge of yourself and your health." "The screening is not painful and takes hardly any time at all," emphasized Geraldine. "It’s worth saving your life, I’ll tell you that." Lung screenings take just 15 minutes or less. It's a small investment of time that could save your life. Call 423-495-5864 to register for a low-dose CT lung screening. #NationalMinorityHealthMonth #PreventativeCare #EarlyDetection #LungScreening #HealthEquity
