Happy #internationalwomensday ♀️🎉 The Tabletop Roleplay Gaming community has been, and still is, a male-dominated hobby. I always hear how men started playing in the 80's, and that it was never a 'girl thing'. Women are often shamed for liking needy things, or are often made to feel uneasy around the table. Being a female small-business owner in this industry has been very difficult, and I think it would shock people to know that. I've had people ignore me and speak to one of the guys instead, I've been stared at, I've had people assume I am 'the wife' who is helping out at conventions, people assume I wont know what I'm talking about so they don't ask me questions, and I've been ignored in a business email despite being the one to speak to them at a convention. But thankfully, it is changing, and this behaviour would have been so much more frequent even 5 years ago. Thankfully, since I started playing dnd in 2019, I have seen an increase in female players, and have met so many amazing female DMs, writers and illustrators. Our Learn to Plays are mostly women and non-binary folks, and there are more and more women writing adventures and games. That's why we have decided to highlight some of the amazing female creators and writers whose products we have in the shop. By doing this, we hope to build them up, give them extra opportunities to be seen, and encourage people to try their work.

I get it. If it was easy everyone would do it. But the truth is, creating accessible digital content can be a daunting task. So many questions running like wild ponies through your head. Questions like: - What is this European Accessibility Act thing? - Does this apply to me? - Why should I care? - What's in it for me? and many more... Well, I just heard that a bunch of delightful people from Inclusion Europe and European Digital Rights (experts really) from disability rights, human rights, and tech fields are coming together to explore inclusive design in: - digital services - web accessibility and - inclusive data representation What does this mean? It means, believe in luck (but don't forget to work hard) 🤭 No really, it means, you'll understand how accessible digital design can make disabled people feel welcome when they visit your online business. 🫶 So when? May 29 · 2 - 3 pm CEST How? The link to register is in the comment section below. 👇 Go on. Grab a cup of coffee and join us. ☕️ What could be more important than that? Yours highly caffeinated. Lia 🖤 PS Accessibility tip: Add an image/video description to your post and your marketing will include everyone. 😉 #FreelanceWriter #WeAreBillionStrong #Accessibility Image description: Lia, wearing dark-framed sunglasses, a pink t-shirt, and blue jeans stands next to her client. Margo is wearing red-framed sunglasses, a black blazer, and black jeans and she's holding the harness of her guide dog, Glen, a grey Giant Poodle is next to her wearing his harness. What would it look like when we step away from our comfort visuals and celebrate the diversity around us? ❓What if we showed people with disabilities leading companies? ❓People of color as doctors, lawyers, and billionaires? ❓Or women and men with their natural hair in professional settings? We may not be able to include everyone in our community or company in one visual, but with the power of digital content, we can always create more to connect others. Did you know you can check the contrast of your colours for free? Having good colour contrast makes your content more accessible which as we all know, is a winner! As part of creating this post I learned that some of the combinations I've been using aren't accessible, so I'll be switching up the colours I use together, even though I really love the pink with white - but accessibility is more important! You can always share the same graphic in multiple different colour combinations too for maximum accessibility. Bookmark this link to check yours easily: https://lnkd.in/eN8ECcHf . [Carousel ID: Each slide has one of Alexis' brand colours as the background with the text "make your colour contrast accessible" on it in black or white. Beside each is either "pass" or "fail" in large bold text and a smaller note to say what colour the text needs to be.] #Accessibility #SocialMedia #Inclusion

“I have sympathy for organisations in terms of the funding cuts, but it doesn’t excuse the treatment of artists and their pay as an afterthought.” ~ Larry Achiampong, artist and DACS member. Thanks to The Guardian and Lanre Bakare for highlighting a new report on the shocking findings on artists’ earnings in the UK by the University of Glasgow commissioned by DACS. https://lnkd.in/edEF9VNt Following a national survey of over 1,200 visual artists, photographers, and illustrators. Key findings include: ▶ Median income for visual artists is £12,500 a year, a 47% decrease since 2010 ▶ Significant disparities in pay across demographics, with women and other genders earning 40% less than men and disabled artists earning a median of just £3,750 ▶ Over 80% of artists describe their earnings as ‘unstable’ or ‘very unstable’ #visualarts #visualartists #creativeindustries #artistspay #fairpay

It is refreshing to hear a woman express interest in the technical aspects of visual effects. This breaks the stereotype that women are less inclined towards technical fields, which is often seen as a male-dominated area. In fact, the capability and interest in mastering technical skills in VFX are not gender-specific: both men and women can excel equally in this creative and technical industry. Encouraging women to pursue and showcase their expertise in VFX contributes to a more diverse and inclusive field, benefiting the entire industry.
