According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, the United States alone faces a $2.59 trillion infrastructure investment gap. Aging infrastructure, coupled with increasing demand, is leading to traffic congestion, water main breaks, power outages, and other disruptions that significantly impact citizens' daily lives. Digital twins offer a powerful solution to address these infrastructure challenges. By creating a virtual replica of a city's infrastructure networks, including transportation, utilities, and public facilities, digital twins provide a comprehensive view of the entire system. These virtual models can simulate various scenarios, identify bottlenecks, and optimize resource allocation for infrastructure development and maintenance. Digital twins can also assist in predictive maintenance, reducing downtime and extending the lifespan of infrastructure assets. In the session, "Digital Twin for City Management" at the upcoming Geospatial World Forum (GWF), Ryan Burley, Director of Sales and Business Development at GeoSolutions, USA, will showcase real-world examples of how digital twins have revolutionized city infrastructure management. With his extensive experience in the geospatial industry, Ryan will provide valuable insights into leveraging digital twin technology for enhanced urban planning, sustainable development, and efficient infrastructure management. Precise mapping of the digital infrastructure and making it available for others to see and evaluate re-use is crucial. Shared and open infrastructure is key to ensure we extend the reach rather than we duplicate what already exists.
GIS is crucial for enhancing digital infrastructure as it optimizes deployment, reduces costs, and ensures efficient maintenance by proactively managing assets, simplifying compliance with regulations, and streamlining decision-making in infrastructure planning. Read our recent whitepaper on this topic, which covers the role of governments in making GIS data widely available, Salience’s web GIS solutions, services, and related use cases. Through these use cases and examples of projects, we have demonstrated the enormous power and potential of GIS while acknowledging the undoubted challenges. As our reliance on digital technology grows, GIS becomes even more vital, guiding towards an inclusive and resilient future in an interconnected world with universal communication access. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/duuT_RQ5

The DisruptIQ platform offers a comprehensive system for tracking and managing construction permits across a city, helping to identify patterns of activity over time. For instance, linear patterns may signal pipeline replacements, while clusters of permits could indicate routine maintenance, such as stormwater inlet cleaning. Machine learning (ML) is key to analyzing these data and identifying activities, their locations, durations, and potential impacts. With this information, cities can proactively notify businesses, entire neighborhoods, and emergency services about disruptions. Future updates will allow for real-time tracking of permits and help forecast upcoming impacts. City officials can use the platform to assess their districts, comparing permit data to identify areas that need attention. For example, a district with a high ratio of unplanned permits may signal operational challenges. The platform tracks trends over customizable timeframes, revealing changes in activity levels over time. Beyond permits, the platform provides infrastructure insights, including location-specific scores and activity frequencies. ML algorithms help predict areas at risk of disruptions like water outages or localized flooding, guiding long-term infrastructure planning. Drawing on 30 years of historical data, the platform uncovers patterns in disruptions so planners like you can proactively address infrastructure challenges as you simultaneously plan for future population growth. And this is just the beginning... Please Follow us and like or share with folks you feel would be interested. Thanks in advance for your time. GIS and digital mapping technologies have revolutionized the way we plan, design, and manage infrastructure projects. Here's how: Spatial Analysis:- GIS enables us to analyze spatial data and extract meaningful insights to inform decision-making. From identifying optimal site locations to assessing environmental impact, spatial analysis helps us make informed choices that maximize efficiency and minimize risk. Asset Management:- By digitizing infrastructure assets and integrating them into GIS platforms, we can effectively manage and maintain critical infrastructure networks. GIS allows us to track asset condition, monitor performance, and prioritize maintenance activities for optimal asset lifecycle management. Urban Planning:- GIS plays a crucial role in urban planning by providing planners with valuable insights into demographic trends, land use patterns, and transportation networks. By visualizing complex spatial relationships, GIS empowers planners to design vibrant, livable communities that meet the needs of residents and businesses. Disaster Management:- GIS is an invaluable tool for disaster management and emergency response. By mapping vulnerable areas, identifying at-risk populations, and coordinating response efforts, GIS helps communities prepare for and mitigate the impact of natural disasters and other emergencies. Environmental Conservation:- GIS supports environmental conservation efforts by facilitating the analysis of ecological data, habitat mapping, and natural resource management. By understanding the spatial relationships between human activities and the environment, GIS enables us to develop strategies for sustainable resource use and conservation. #GIS #digitalmapping #bim #assetmanagement #spatialanalysis
