🎉 GIZ hands over the Integrated Fall Armyworm Management Manual to Ministry of Agriculture📚 We are delighted to announce that the harmonised Integrated Fall Armyworm Management (IPM) Manual has been officially handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture. The ceremony took place on Monday 9, December and was officiated by the Permanent Secretary- Technical, Hon. John Mulongoti. The manual will serve as a comprehensive guide for integrated fall armyworm management, supporting smallholder farmers and other stakeholders in tackling one of the major threats to maize production in Zambia. 🌽💪 In his keynote speech, The Permanent Secretary reiterated the ministry’s commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture. “The ministry has intensified its efforts in supporting farmers through enhanced monitoring, early warning systems and timey dissemination of information,” he stated. “This manual comes at a critical time and is essential for achieving sustainable control of the pest.” This significant milestone is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Fall Armyworm Taskforce, which includes partners such as GIZ (through the Agroecological Innovations for Smallholder Pest Management project), FAO, CABI, ICIPE - International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology, The University Of Zambia (UNZA), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), CIFOR-ICRAF and Zambia Agriculture Research Institute. 🤝 The manual is already in use by the Global Programme on Sustainable Agricultural Systems and Policies (AgSys), implemented by GIZ, which is currently training 35 master trainers at the Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre. These trainers, will cascade their knowledge to extension officers and farmers nationwide, amplifying the manual’s impact at the grassroot level. 🌿👩🌾👨🌾 Special thanks to all our partners for their collaboration and commitment. Together, we are fostering a resilient and sustainable future for Zambia's farmers! #IPMManual #FallArmywormManagement #ZambiaAgriculture #FoodSecurity #FarmerEmpowerment #PestManagement #EcoPM #AgSys #ResilientFarming #SustainableFarming
