❓What Happens Once the Blades Stop Turning❓ In one of our recent posts, we shared our three key takeaways from this year’s WindEnergy Hamburg conference. The first takeaway highlighted a pressing challenge facing both the wind industry and society: more than 15,000 wind turbines in Germany alone are nearing the end of their operational life and will need decommissioning in the near future. Now, this number solely reflects the situation in Germany; on a global scale, the number is far larger. With this in mind, it is only natural to ask: “What happens once the blades stop turning?” Well, the answer depends on who you ask🧐 At Kingo Wind, our primary focus is on minimizing environmental impact while maximizing material recovery and reuse. Each of our projects begins with a thorough assessment to determine optimal reuse solutions before a turbine is disassembled and placed carefully on the ground to preserve opportunities for component reuse. Our goal is to achieve direct reuse of all components with as little processing, energy, and emissions as possible. Where reuse is not viable, we employ the most environmentally favorable recycling methods available♻️ To us, this circular approach, where all usable materials are repurposed, rather than buried and left as a burden for future generations, is the only sensible answer to the question, "What happens once the blades stop turning?" — What’s yours? #WindEnergy #SustainableDecommissioning #CircularEconomy #KingoWind

CORES WIND Project Pioneers Circular Resins and Advanced Disassembly for Wind Blade Recycling The ECORES WIND initiative, launched in September 2024 in Bilbao, Spain, is advancing wind blade #circularity through innovative resin technologies and disassembly methods designed to streamline blade decommissioning and material reuse. Funded by Horizon Europe and led by Fundación GAIKER Technology Centre in collaboration with 13 European partners, #ECORES WIND’s mission is to address the end-of-life (EOL) challenges for wind turbine components, specifically focusing on sustainable alternatives for conventional resins in composite blade structures. Over its 42-month duration, ECORES WIND aims to develop recyclable resin systems that extend blade lifespan and enable efficient disassembly and recycling, while also reducing the environmental footprint of wind energy infrastructure. These circular resin systems will allow decommissioned materials to be repurposed across multiple sectors, promoting a sustainable pathway for Europe’s rapidly aging onshore wind infrastructure. Germany has made a groundbreaking step in sustainable energy by installing the world's first wooden wind turbine blades. These innovative blades, made from a sustainable wood-plastic composite, were installed as part of a project aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of wind energy production. The blades, developed by a consortium of engineers and researchers, are designed to be more eco-friendly than traditional fiberglass blades, which are difficult to recycle. The new wooden blades promise to not only improve the environmental sustainability of wind farms but also offer a more renewable and recyclable alternative. This development marks a significant milestone in the renewable energy sector and highlights Germany’s commitment to innovative solutions for a greener future. #SustainableEnergy #WindPower #GreenInnovation #WoodenWindTurbines #RenewableEnergy

🔋 We're thrilled to announce the launch of the AQUABATTERY pilot for sustainable energy storage! Buildings are a major contributor to global CO₂ emissions. To reduce their impact, we're piloting the AquaBattery on our Delft campus. The AquaBattery is a safe, eco-friendly flow battery that stores energy by splitting water containing only table salt into separate acidic and basic solutions. Combining them later regenerates electricity. This helps make our campus Paris Proof by 2040. Wouter de Haan, Head of Facility Management at Deltares: "Deltares is a living lab, and by hosting the Aquabattery we can test and optimise it in a real-world setting. This will advance solutions for renewable energy storage and supporting the energy transition." The history of windmills is a fascinating journey from ancient innovation to modern sustainability. Windmills originated in Persia between 500-900 AD, used primarily for grinding grain and pumping water. By the 12th century, windmills had made their way to Europe, significantly impacting agriculture and industry, especially in countries like the Netherlands. Today, these ancient windmills have evolved into sophisticated wind turbines that contribute to our sustainable energy grid. They are vital in reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy. #WindPower #RenewableEnergy
