European Commission And South Africa Launch The Scaling Up Renewables In Africa Campaign   On the evening of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled the global initiative Scaling Up Renewables in Africa during the Global Citizen NOW event.   President von der Leyen said: “Africa's clean energy journey is picking up speed. We are proud to be part of it. Europe has been investing massively in renewable energy projects in Africa with Global Gateway. Now we are calling on the world to join us. I'm happy to co-host the campaign Scaling up Renewables in Africa with President Ramaphosa. Together, we will help bring clean, affordable power to Africa."   The Global African Hydrogen Summit, taking place 9-11 September 2025 in Namibia will serve as a key platform to advance Africa's green energy future and convene global leaders across the hydrogen value chain to drive progress in the industry. At the first edition of the Summit, the European Union supported the Namibian Green Industrialisation agenda with €25 million in grants to support long-term renewable energy planning and development.
