Active participation on the resources development of EU structural funds (2021-2027)
Two weeks ago, Director of the One Works Foundation, Silvia Botti, had the incredible opportunity to moderate the insightful event "Pensare la città. Cremona, visioni e progetti di una città in trasformazione" in Cremona, hosted by the Deputy Mayor of Cremona, Andrea Virgilio and Federica Marzuoli from Regione Lombardia. 🏙 The discussion brought to light the transformative vision and projects shaping the future of urban spaces in growing cities starting from a deep dive into Mario Cucinella's plan for the new Hospital in Cremona, alongside Isabella Inti (Politecnico di Milano), Stefano Peyretti (Isola Architetti), Lamberto Rossi (Lamberto Rossi e Associati), and Vincenzo Sidoti (SIDOTI ENGINEERING). 🤝The event is part of the “Giovani in Centro” Project, which focuses on development and urban regeneration strategies for the historic center of Cremona. This initiative is supported by the Regional ERDF and ESF+ Programs under European Structural and Investment Funds 2021-2027. #oneworksfoundation #nonprofit #urbanInnovation #urbanregeneration #urbandevelopment #architecture #sustainability #future #youthgeneration #futuregenerations #CremonaEvent #GiovaniInCentro #vivereCremona #Cremona

Digital Twin for Sarajevo: Professor Hubert Klumpner's chair designed the first AI-supported 4D model for Sarajevo. 🗺️ It takes spatial and temporal dimension into account in urban planning and was the basis for public hearings. “To map the complexity of the city, we need new methods, processes and technologies,” says Klumpner. This is a great example of how to apply the Digital Twin concept: (1) a holistic approach integrating context-specific social data and the natural environment, (2) introducing an agent-based model, and (3) enriching a participatory process. The model digitally replicates the current scenario by real-time monitoring of diverse parameters, whose interactions could be analysed for further potential. It provides a comprehensive digital platform that reflects the region's master plan and will be able to support decision-making on reducing major negative externalities in the city, such as pollution and social inequities. Just by reading the article, it looks great! I recently completed the course on Digital Twins for Smart Mobility at UPC School (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) in collaboration with Aimsun and promoted by EIT Urban Mobility. Thanks to the course I gained insights on a range of tools to cover the whole creation process, such as point-cloud scanning and data collection through IoT. Furthermore, it allowed me to understand the singularities of a Digital Twin compared to traditional simulation models, enabling me to critically evaluate this trend in transport and city planning. https://lnkd.in/dncFM29E

Exciting panel discussion on the trend towards 'new suburbs' and the concept of the 15-minute city. This debate delves into the growing preference among architects, master-planners, and developers for creating lively micro-communities. We explore the feasibility of the 15-minute city idea and how architects can effectively plan for a diverse mix of amenities. Key points include the need for innovative solutions in traffic flow and infrastructure for regional hubs, the time required to integrate these hubs into existing cities or develop new micro-hub cities, and the potential similarities to the small town concept of the past. Join us for insights from panelists representing various perspectives in the industry. Moderated by Adam Smith, this promises to be a thought-provoking discussion at the FOA Summit. #FOA #FOASummit #FOAAwards.

Roadways to our Future: I am honored to announce that I will be keynote speaking at the 2024 Construction in Indian Country (CIIC) conference, providing a presentation titled “Coming full Circle - Architecture and Cultural Identity in the advocacy for an American Indian Architecture". This keynote is designed to present a rationale towards meaning in architecture, itself a topic that can attract students, professionals, and ethnocultural advocates within the greater design community. In the process, it presents an interpretive framework for not only how American Indian values can be more meaningfully represented in their architecture today, but also how these values can become a more evolved and matured set of values for American architecture itself, specifically in the American West. The notion of meaning beyond simple consumerism, an exhausted concentration upon the functional imperative, and bankrupt formal exercises is a specifically salient topic in architectural education and practice today, and as such, gives the American Indian culture a ‘seat at the table’ in helping to inform a more meaningful American architecture ‘writ-large’. Come join us on October 2-4, 2024 at the Gila River Resorts & Casinos Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Arizona for a conference promising a roadmap towards a "20/20 Vision for the Future". #americanindian, #nativeamerican, #indiginousarchitecture, #americanindianautonomy, #americanarchitecture, #innovativedesign, #cultureinarchitecture, #CIIC24, #ConstructionInIndianCountry, #NativeOwned

The CIIC 2024 conference was a great success. We were so very pleased with the positive reception to our keynote presentation, and were quite pleased with the number of probing and important questions/comments generated by the somewhat provocative position presented - what would define a 'new' architecture of the American West, and what would define the idea of "American Indian" architecture today, specifically one that does not employ the standard consumerist stereotypical tropes, types, forms, and decorations that have defined it over the past decades? What would be an architecture of authenticity, sharing notions of community, inspirations from nature and the landscape, and notions of cultural autonomy and authority? Thanks to Kim Kanuho, Geo Abby, and Scott Moore y Medina for continued conversations on informing this conversation - more to come, I hope. #americanindian, #nativeamerican, #indiginousarchitecture, #americanindianautonomy, #americanarchitecture, #innovativedesign, #cultureinarchitecture, #CIIC24, #ConstructionInIndianCountry, #nativeowned

One of the questions DAL strives to answer is "provided with nature, the support of community and freedom to experiment, fail and persevere, can we design a new paradigm of existence?"
