The Hungarian presidency will be a transition presidency. There will be little legislative activity. But a Council presidency is always important. We all know that Hungary is a difficult EU member and that there are many areas where Budapest takes positions that are not in the mainstream. The question is whether the government will use the Presidency to highlight the divisions or whether it will play the traditional role of the honest broker. My guess and my hope is they will do the latter and use the post election time to work towards more unity, mutual understanding and cooperation. I know from my work with the HU presidency in 2011 that they have a very good administration and that they can do a good job if the political will is there to do just that.

I finally talked about my near-death experience at the @aeeapac Asia Pacific Conference. If you didn't know: I jumped off a 530-meter cliff last year and my parachute malfunctioned. Hanging on by a thread, I survived but broke a lot of things. I try not to complain because the reality of it is that I could have been dead or had it a lot worse. Luckily I only broke 3 out of my 4 limbs. I know a lot of my friends and insta family do not know the entire story. Well, the story is long and I am on the journey to pen all the details of my knock on deaths door it all into a book. That may take some time.
