📰 NGO NEST Berlin attended the 2nd Transnational Project Meeting of the project “Media Education and News Literacy to yoUth against Fake news recepTion and implicatiOnS” FATOS2U- a KA2 Youth project funded by the Erasmus Plus programme. During the meeting partners presented the story board of the results developed so far, and a fruitful discussion developed on the next steps for the development of the intellectual outputs and future meetings. 📅 The event took place on June 24th in Athens, Greece. In the framework of the “FATOS2U” project, representatives from the5 partners’ countries, including Greece, Germany, Portugal, Romania and Italy, discussed regarding the development of the project and the preparation of the training course mobility. 🌐 “FATOS2U” project aims counteract the exposure of young people to large-scale disinformation by fostering media literacy and awareness of key principles. This is an important article about the European Universities Initiative and the European Higher Education Area in general. We will fail as long as we discuss about „excellence vs. cohesion“. There will be no transformation into „future universities“ matching diverse societal, environmental and economic needs to compete on global levels. Excellence in higher education is not (only)dependent on research output, citation indices and various rankings. A much more diversified perspective on excellence is needed. What about human-centered, inclusive approaches? What about (regional) impact? What about innovative and flexible teaching and learning methods? What about the interrelation of education, research, innovation and service with/Dir society? What about interdisciplinary? What about university-industry-interaction?… Our E³UDRES² European University was amongst the first alliances that include (a majority) of universities of applied sciences and HEIs from widening countries and is still one of few alliances coordinated from an university of applied sciences. With our comparably small members we act agile in close collaboration with various (regional) stakeholders. As an engaged and entrepreneurial university we foster European smart and sustainable regions and strive for excellence with regard to (regional) impact and talents and skills development. At EURASHE we support all kinds of higher education institutions that integrate education, research, innovation and societal engagement and strengthen both excellence AND cohesion!

ORI aims to empower Irish institutions to adopt more sustainable, interoperable, and accessible open repository practices, ensuring that Irish research is discoverable on a global scale. As a membership organisation, ORI will focus on providing essential resources and building a collaborative network that meets the growing demands for openness and inclusivity in research dissemination. I believe that with joint efforts and focus, the youth will be able to make a difference for our future.

Is the future of democracy digital? Let your voice be heard! The digital revolution is turning democracy upside down. More and more political discourse occurs via social media, and increasingly, citizens can participate in decision-making about their city's organization through digital platforms. However, while digitization can open doors to greater inclusivity and engagement, there is still much work to be done to design digital technologies smarter, so that they truly strengthen our democracies. For this, close collaboration between practice and science is essential. That's why the European Digital DemocracY network (EDDY) is organizing a panel titled "Is the Future of Democracy Digital?". This panel opens up a #conversation between scientists, practitioners, and the #audience. The panel will investigate the role citizens should play in developing #digital #democracy, look at the biggest challenges scientists should address, and decide which findings deserve more attention in order to enhance the #benefits of digital democracy. How do you create responsible and reciprocal partnerships between Nordic and African academic institutions? 🌍 That was the topic of a webinar this week arranged by the Nordic Five Tech taskforce on Africa and with leaders and experts from 3 different African and Nordic countries. Here are some of the points from the discussion: 👉 Partnerships are the 17th SDG and the foundation of so much of our work, not only within the academic world. 👉 In a good partnership, we are partners from the beginning and not the end. African universities should not be treated as mere data providers but be included in the co-creation process. It’s not just a matter of knowledge or technology transfer but proper collaboration. 👉 A good partnership can both influence policy decisions and create future leaders. It’s transformative and not merely transactional. 👉 There is a great need for systemic change in the global academic world in order to deal with the enormous deficit in knowledge production within and between different parts of the world. That includes more funding for student and faculty exchange between Africa and Europe. 👉 African academic leaders are moving ahead when it comes to sustainable and social consciousness and the crucial decolonisation that needs to take place in knowledge production. IMPACTFUL UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS: Speaking in Paris at the end of France's Presidency of the EU in June 2022, I highlighted the significance of European universities coming together in mega partnerships. Collaboration, rather than cutthroat competition, is key to advancing the knowledge project for sustainable futures. University World News reports the addition of 14 more partnerships, a commendable step forward https://lnkd.in/e6gWgd_u. This collaborative model is exactly what Africa requires to tackle its developmental challenges effectively. For Africa to overcome obstacles and catch up in sustainable development, fostering partnerships across borders and boundaries is essential. Empowering the continent's youth, who possess immense potential, is crucial for leveraging them as a demographic dividend. African universities must not only collaborate internally but also establish enduring partnerships with industry, civil society, governments, and philanthropic organizations, on both African and global levels. This holistic approach is vital to address the pressing employment needs and ensure dignified and meaningful work for the youth. #partnerships4progress
