Read the first installment in a series of briefs exploring campus outcomes from participation in the Network's Middle Leadership Academy (Academy), authored by Thad Nodine. This initial brief focuses on California State University, Chico, highlighting the impactful efforts of its teams to implement changes aimed at enhancing equitable student success outcomes. Through insights and strategies developed during Academy sessions, participants have leveraged their experiences to align the campus's Advancing Equity Project (AEP) initiatives with broader campus goals. Super fun time speaking with current marketing students at University of Portland - including a few students I’ve previously had in class! Hopefully my hot takes weren’t too hot 😄 Some highlights: - Don’t blanket add people on LinkedIn; invest in relationships with contacts you make like you would anyone else! - Your grades don’t matter as much as your ability to demonstrate responsibility and follow through (which more often than not ends up being reflected in your grades anyways). - Leverage college as an opportunity to learn how to think critically and connect with folks who hold different perspectives and experiences than you. Empathy and wisdom will take your career higher and farther than solely focusing on being a high performer by yourself. We need to be able to serve alongside others!

The HBdV Fellows introduce themselves. We start with Merle-Sophie Thielmann from the Universität Mannheim. At the #7ECSLHE, I present a seminar concept introducing pre-service teachers to diversity-oriented school improvement processes. Students gained insight into the implementation of these processes during visits to cooperating schools and reflected on their future roles in shaping the schools they will work at. The presentation of the seminar concept is supplemented by qualitative analyses of students' written reflections and group discussions on the potential benefits of service learning in a) addressing the challenges faced by schools in socially disadvantaged areas and b) preparing pre-service teachers for teaching at and shaping schools in increasingly diverse environments.

Take-away: "Tear down this wall!" Make the ways to draw faculty and experiential learning centers closer.
