As I am undergoing my own existential crisis in today's academic environment, I am inspired to give this keynote on the 13th of March at the University of Warwick: 'Women in Academia 2.0 Feminist Decolonial Praxis: Ethics, Identity, and Methodologies in Global Research.' In my talk (alongside my colleague #AdrijaDey), I will be exploring strategies for creating #safe #spaces in academia, drawing from my own experiences navigating #unhelpful (highly #bureaucratic and #underresourced), at times deeply #patriarchal, #coloniality-embedded cultures in academia and in international research abroad. If you have any thoughts on how we can create academic cultures centred on (individual and collective) #wellbeing, #personalgrowth, and #fairness, do comment below! This comes at a good time, having recently been awarded by SOAS University of London a #Research #Culture grant to create a Women Academics Support Group within our own institution together with my trailblazing colleague Marie Rodet. It is my deepest hope that we can work substantively with the SOAS leadership and culture teams to address real issues and to make SOAS a beacon of change for others to be inspired by. Please note that #registration to the Warwick Conference is reserved for collaborating universities, primarily those in the Midlands and London, and is specifically intended for PGR students and researchers in the earliest stages of academic career development. #women #academia #ECR #PGR #conference #safeSpaces #support #researchCultures

E stands for Equity, D for Diversity and I for Inclusion An essential part of human rights discussion in higher education is EDI / DEI related themes, where the letter E stands for Equity, D meaning Diversity and I indicating Inclusion. Additionally, we can add here also the letter B, where B stands for Belonging and shared community spirit. Horizon InCities project, focusing on sustainable and inclusive urban development in the newly established PIONEER Alliance, organized at Laurea 31.10.2024 an info webinar on these topics where also Erasmus+ JeS Project Researcher Piia Tiilikallio presented the latest commitment by the InCITIES institutions (Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon, Laurea University of Applied Sciences, University of Applied Sciences Köln, University of Žilina and Gustave Eiffel University) where it is stated that all these HEIs “embrace the principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in all areas of our institutions, for all members of our institutions”. With such ground-breaking agreement, focusing on continuous learning and improvement, these HEIs include EDI principles e.g. in their leadership development, inclusive learning, environment, and work culture as well as transparent and regular monitoring, EDI integration in curricula and RDI activities, recruitment and community engagement included. Not only awareness of these important topics but also practical inclusion of EDI principles in HEIs is essential for human rights advancement that also Erasmus+ JeS (Joint eStories: Journeys from Fear to Fair) wishes to promote in all its activities. As a professor, I see the Ivy League's allure and its challenges firsthand. These prestigious institutions promise unparalleled academic and career opportunities, yet their admissions process often overlooks merit, prioritizing wealth instead. While the high costs are seen as an investment in future success, they also limit access for many talented students. By focusing more on human capital, as seen in Italian universities like Bocconi and Luiss, we can foster a more equitable and diverse educational environment that benefits society as a whole. Everyone who follows trends in international student mobility needs to read this gripping new essay from Dr. Parag Khanna in Noema Magazine. Khanna argues the unipolar American era has given way to a fluid, neo-medieval world of competing nodes of power - nations, cities, companies, and communities - in a "geopolitical marketplace" of shifting alliances. His provocative view: regional spheres of influence may emerge as the world fragments - not a clash of hegemons, but a complex, decentralized landscape where no power can dominate. https://lnkd.in/eKfgAmmc What do you think about Khanna's vision of a fragmented future? How might it impact the future international student mobility? Share your thoughts in the comments!

We are thrilled to announce that Francesco Billari has been unanimously reappointed as the #Rector of Bocconi University until 2027! Under the leadership of President Andrea Sironi, this decision reflects our collective confidence in Rector Billari's vision and dedication. The President highlighted the Rector’s efforts during his first term in promoting #inclusion, #cultural and #gender diversity and elevating Bocconi as a leading #socialScience institution. "The #future of Bocconi will continue to be characterized by these guidelines, in addition to international openness and developing impactful research and a quality teaching experience aimed at training ‘future-proof’ students." As we continue to foster our university’s leading position in Europe in the social sciences, Rector Billari and his team will be committed to several key initiatives that will shape our future: 👉 #StrategicPlan for 2026-2030: a five-year period plan that addresses global demographic and socio-economic trends, ensuring Bocconi remains at the forefront of higher education and research. 👉 New #Department for #Cognitive and #Behavioral Science: This will expand our frontiers in the social sciences, foster new educational programs, and enhance our digital transformation through the integration of artificial intelligence in teaching and research. 👉 #SocialImpact and #ThirdMission: We aim to promote our social initiatives in Italy, Europe and around the world, encouraging student participation and strengthening our cultural presence in Milan and beyond, with more involvement and openness to the city and its main events. 👉 #Fundraising Campaign for 2030: Focusing on inclusion, student support, research, faculty, and campus development, we will engage individual, corporate and foundation donors worldwide. Our Bocconi Alumni Community will play a vital role in this endeavor, including through major initiatives that encourage a return to the campus. 👉 Attracting Global #Talent: We will continue to draw high-caliber students from Italy, Europe and around the world, bolstering our inclusion policies and expanding residence opportunities near campus. As a #community, we look forward to working together to make these goals a reality. Let's continue to inspire #change and shape the future, together, and good luck to our Rector for his second term.

Here is another picture from the great conference I attened in Poland earlier this week. I would like to thank Uniwersytet Jana Długosza w Częstochowie for making it possible for me to take part in this event! Research might not generate immediate monetary income but international scholarships and cross-border collaborations are crucial for advancing knowledge and enriching pedagogy. When researchers engage globally, they bring diverse perspectives into classrooms, promote inclusive teaching, and foster innovative approaches to learning. This exchange of ideas strengthens academic institutions, empowers educators, and better prepares students for the complexities of the global workforce. Research drives educational excellence, fosters a culture of shared knowledge which in return, attracts more students! #GlobalEducation #InternationalCollaboration #AcademicExcellence #InclusivePedagogy #Research #ResearchIsValue #AcademicFreedom
