#Infectiousdiseases pose a severe threat to #globalhealth that cannot be adequately addressed with vaccines alone. Among these, #smallpox, #mpox, and other orthopoxviruses stand out due to their high infectivity and lethality. Society must take proactive measures to prevent and mitigate outbreaks—whether they arise from natural occurrences, accidents, or intentional acts. At SIGA, we are dedicated to developing treatments to combat emerging infectious diseases with high unmet medical need, ensuring patients worldwide receive the care they need. 🏡 🌱 Happy to share our latest study in Thorax where we investigate the impact of early living environment on common infection and asthma risk later in childhood 🏙 🤧 Key findings: Urbanicity caused alterations in the early airway immune response and maternal and child blood metabolomic profiles which were directly related to later infection risk in childhood 💡 📝 Potential: By detecting early risk factors and disease mechanisms, we aim to understand specific pathways that could be utilized in a targeted prevention strategy Jonathan Thorsen, Casper-Emil Tingskov Pedersen, Mina Ali, Julie Nyholm Kyvsgaard, Sarah Brandt, Jenni Lehtimäki, Nicole Prince, Nilo Vahman, Jessica Lasky-Su, Jakob Stokholm, Klaus Bønnelykke, Bo Chawes COPSAC, Harvard Medical School, BMJ https://lnkd.in/eDTRa5YD

The new EuroLyme EU petition mentions DualDur as an example of reliable blood test. The petitioner makes reference to the European Parliament Resolution of 15 November 2018 on Lyme disease (Borreliosis), highlighting the need for more reliable blood tests for the diagnostic and screening of this illness. In his opinion, the tests should cover all Borelia species and repeated testing, using several existing tests, should be performed in an effort to develop better perspectives of treatment. #lyme #borrelia #lymedisease #lymediagnostics
