MARITIME SECURITY 🚨 ⚓ Approach- 504nm off Socotra, Yemen Incident comes after at last 20 dhows were hijacked off the coast of Somalia since November 2023. In March 2024, EUNAVFOR’s OPERATION ATALANTA identified several possible pirate camps on the Somali Coasts situated between Cape Hafun and the village of Garacad, whilst local sources report a surge in pirate activity along the coast between the Hobyo, Nugal, and Mudug regions in Somalia. It is a realistic possibility that several Pirate Action Groups (PAGs) are active between the Gulf of Aden north of Socotra out to 800nm offshore Somalia in the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. Somali pirates have successfully hijacked at least 3 commercial ships since November 2023. #security #mena #middleeast #maritime #maritimesecurity #shipsandshipping #shippingindustry #maritimeindustry #piracy #somalia #indianocean

Amid rising regional anti-immigrant sentiments, riots targeting the Syrian refugees erupted in #Turkey, followed by an escalation of violence between the Turkish forces and the Syrian population in Turkish-controlled northern Syria. Rising tensions risk undermining the normalization efforts between Turkey and Syria and could have severe implications for the safety of Syrian refugees and bystanders in Turkey and in the region. dyami | security intelligence | count on us https://lnkd.in/e7943MN3 #antiimmigrantsentiments #Syrianrefugees #riots #normalization #bilateralrelations #violence #Erdogan #Assad #regionalimplications

MARITIME SECURITY 🚨 ⚓️ EUNAVFOR suggest Somali PAGs have shifted locations slightly owing to start of the monsoon. "Considering the latest approach on 07th June, 300NM east of Mogadishu in the South Somali Basin, along with the current weather conditions in the North Somali Basin, it is assessed that the PAG operating near Central Somalia has moved southbound to the South Somali Basin. It is also assessed that the PAG operating south of Socotra has shifted northbound to the eastern Gulf of Aden to avoid the monsoon weather" (image below). #security #mena #middleeast #maritime #maritimesecurity #shipsandshipping #shippingindustry #maritimeindustry #piracy #somalia #indianocean

With its sprawling 70,898km² of land area, #Borno state of Nigeria is almost the combined size of the #BENELUX countries of #Belgium (30,688 km²), the #Netherlands (41,850 km²), and #Luxembourg (2,586 km²). As one of the most affected states in terms of terrorist activities in the #Sahel region, Borno, with the support of different actors has begun its #reconstruction efforts. In this article, I give an overview of the actors involved in reconstruction efforts in the state between 2016 to 2023. I stress that although #Nigeria is winning the #war, the state must remain committed and deliberate to avoid a relapse that could undo the recorded successes. #OpenAccess: Published in Henley-Putnam’s Journal of Strategic Security (JSS) - Global and National Security Institute (GNSI) at the University of South Florida Available at: https://lnkd.in/duCanqUn Borno
