Design has long been considered mysterious, driven by intuition and creativity, but we set out to demystify it! 🧐 Our new #chi2024 paper w/ 🏆 Honorable Mention Award 🏆 explores designers' tacit knowledge and proposes design guidelines for systems that can capture and share it. This work thoroughly investigated the characteristics, instances, and support approaches of tacit knowledge in graphic design. Specifically, we analyzed the investigated tacit knowledge instances (123 instances) from design experts in terms of their 1) Element (where the tacit knowledge is revealed), 2) Action (the action taken by the knowledge subject to use it), and 3) Purpose (the purpose of using that knowledge). Designing this logo for SECP’s gala event was a journey of creativity, collaboration, and shared vision. Every element of the logo was carefully thought out, inspired by key concepts that reflect the values and spirit of SECP. However, the most important aspect of the process was the involvement of the SECP team and there preferences over the process. Their insights, preferences, and personal touch were invaluable in shaping the final design.
