After years, Steven Bartlett, the host of my favorite podcast, is back with the format that originally inspired the podcast. It's basically him reading and sharing his own diary and reflections on building multiple businesses, trying to balance relationships, friends, work, and everything else—all at the age of 32. Far from making any comparisons, but I'm only five months older than Steven, and even though I'm just starting my entrepreneurial journey now, I can see myself in many of the mental traps he shares. As you know, I chose to stay in Brazil for the G20 and the XPRIZE award ceremony instead of going to Baku, Azerbaijan, to follow COP29. For two weeks, I was consumed by anxiety about what was happening there. It wasn’t FOMO; it was actual fear. No approval of NAPs (National Adaptation Plans), NCQG stalled throughout the conference, and while it wasn’t an absolute waste of time—tripling the funding to $300 billion annually from rich countries with a review set for 2030 and a roadmap from Baku to Belém to figure out how to reach the $1.3 trillion needed today (which might no longer be enough by 2030)—it's hard to say we made significant progress. The problem is that this funding isn’t in the form of grants as requested. Once again, we financially crush developing economies. And why did this scare me? Because millions of lives are at risk every day, and countless more with each passing day that we fail to act and adapt. It scared me to know that the conference president was a fossil fuel industry advocate and that the Saudi government was doing everything possible to undermine negotiations and roll back the Dubai consensus they reluctantly signed last year. It scared me to realize that we might lack the appetite to lead this agenda decisively. It scared me for future generations. But then, Steven’s phrase came to me like a balm: “Worry doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles; it takes away today’s peace.” This peace is what I need to get my act together, to pursue solutions, to be creative, to act—not out of fear but out of the unconditional love I have for this planet.

To solve climate, bet on people close to problems I would have a very hard time in just being a passive observer and hoping that this “Climate Change Google” comes up. The usual suspects are in no position to derive sufficiently innovative solutions because they fail to understand the problems. Tune in to the episode to hear why: https://lnkd.in/efBn26Me
🌍💡 "Stop looking to the usual suspects to solve our climate crisis," says ME SOLshare Ltd.’s Sebastian Groh in the latest episode of What if Instead? with Alejandro Crawford and Mim Plavin-Masterman, MBA, PhD. Sebastian argues that true innovation will come from empowering climate innovators in the global South, not waiting for a superhero solution from global power centers. Discover why local solutions are our best hope and how Sebastian's own journey proves this point. Tune in to hear how we can shift our focus and empower those closest to the problem to create impactful solutions. After a three-year hiatus, the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, came back with a vengeance, just as a fragmented world confronts a confluence of crises. The global meeting of government, business and community leaders—the first in three years—can’t quite be described as optimistic, among the 600+ CEOs, 200 cabinet ministers, 50 heads of government and 20 central bank governors who attended the event. But after a year marked by war, inflation, energy shortages and pandemic fears, the general view of Davos 2023 was, “hey, things could be a lot worse.”In this episode, host John Stackhouse offers his key learnings during his visit to the Swiss Alps. Alongside his special co-host Naomi Powell, Managing Editor of RBC Economics and Thought Leadership, John takes us through the memorable moments and key themes from this year’s #WEF2023 in Davos. From complications arising from the war in Ukraine, to the energy transition and the global innovation landscape, listen to John’s front-row seat perspective.Hear from some of the world’s top leaders and thinkers, including Matthew Prince, CEO of IT security firm Cloudflare, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Svein Tore Holsether, the CEO of Yara International, a leading crop nutrition company.John also talks about the macro and micro trends discussed at the forum, and where Canada can lead. Also, what was the general sentiment around prospects for 2023 among world leaders? Listen in and find out. John Stackhouse shares his takeaways from Davos 2023, click here to read the piece called, “The Meh-conomy & Matterhorn-sized risks: 12 themes for a fragmented world.” John also penned daily “dispatch from Davos” editorials, which you can read on his LinkedIn page.
