#SSETS #BeforeAndAfterWithSSETS #MySDGfocusWithSSETS   My research expertise aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) they include Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). These key areas address critical global challenges and contribute to sustainable development, economic growth, and social equity. First is quality education: my primary focus is using innovative educational technologies and effective pedagogical methods for teaching in the 21st century. To redefine the learning experience among teachers and students. Second is gender equality (SDG 5) I focus on initiatives that provide women and girls with equal opportunities in education, I aim to advocate for the reduction of gender disparities in rural communities in the North-East. Third, is Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9).This area is motivated by the inspiration i have drawn from the SSETS programme that emphasises the START PRINCIPLE which is hinged on sustainability, technology, accessibility,replicability and transaparency. Last is partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). I have recognised the importance of global and strategic collaboration, stakeholders such as industries and government agencies. I have a drive to promote international cooperation to address global challenges. My work in this area ensures that sustainable development initiatives are well-funded and that progress is tracked through reliable data, fostering transparency and accountability. Through the aforementioned, I aim to contribute to a more sustainable, equitable, and inclusive world, reaching out to rural communities and vulnerable groups to ensure that the benefits of my research are widely shared. Two academics I have connected with as a result of the #SSETS programme are #Prof. Aisha Abdulkadir and #Dr Clinton David An NGO that aligns with my area of interest is #Development Africa. The industry partner that aligns with my goals is #TY Danjuma Foundation, the government agency that further aligns with my interest is the #National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Lastly, a professional body that underscores my research interest is #International Association for Innovations in Educational Assessment (IAIIEA). I commend the efforts of the extraordinary facilitators Dr Akanimo Odon and Dr. Viola Akhigbe who have been consistent every week and pushing me to greatness.I also appreciate the university lead Prof. Chibiya Paul Shinggu (Federal University Wukari) for nominating me to be part of this life changing experience. The event, held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, sparked critical conversations around gender equity in the business world. Ms. Hanoun shared her insights on the importance of creating opportunities based on skills, not gender. She pointed out the paradox of gendered celebrations, which sometimes reinforce stereotypes, and called for true equality. Dec 13, 2024: Yesterday evening, it was an honor to attend the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration event at John Jay College (CUNY) as a member of the NGO Committee on the Status of Women (NGO CSW/NY). A huge thank you to Pamela Morgan, Co-Chair of NGO CSW/NY and Rosemary Barberet, Professor CUNY for inviting us and bringing together such an inspiring group of gender champions. We were privileged to hear from an esteemed panel: 🎓Dr. gail garfield, John Jay College (CUNY) 🎓Amber Barth, International Labour Organization 🎓Aya Yoshida, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan 🎓Dr. Olivera Jokie, John Jay College (CUNY) 🎓Gillian D'Souza Nazareth Their wisdom and insights were invaluable as we reflected on the progress made and the challenges that still lie ahead in achieving gender equality. Key takeaways from the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration event: 🎯 Land Grants University of Minnesota: The discussion around the historical context of land-grant universities and their role in advancing equity and access was particularly interesting. 🎯Affirmative Action for Racial Justice: The focus on affirmative action programs designed to increase representation of students from Southern states in higher education was thought-provoking. 🎯Accountability in Japan: Learning about how local officials in Japan are held accountable for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provided valuable insights into innovative governance models. Every now and again, I get to do really cool things with exceptional people. Two weeks ago, I had the immense privilege of moderating a session at the inaugural #BridgeAfricaSummit, where I hosted an impactful panel on "Gender & Excellence: How Can Gender Equality Drive Excellence?" Our distinguished panelists included: Najat Mokhtar, Deputy Director-General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, International Atomic Energy Agency Rajaâ Cherkaoui , Scientist in nuclear physics, Mohammed V University & Member of the Hassan II Academy of Sciences and Technology Nawal CHRAIBI, Chief Executive Officer, MAScIR Foundation & Executive Director, Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) Sarah JAIDI, Co-founder, Kiwi Collecte, a Moroccan crowdfunding platform for entrepreneurs Throughout the discussion, we delved into critical topics surrounding equity and diversity. We explored how gender equality is not just a moral imperative but a driver of excellence and innovation. We looked at what gender equality looked like in practice within the organisations led by my esteemed panelists, and what concrete actions they had taken to advance this cause. We also discussed the importance of equitable access to research opportunities, addressing implicit biases in research methodologies, and promoting diversity in STEM education from an early age. Additionally, we touched on the importance of ecosystems and the proverbial villages that enable and support women to thrive in their careers. Moderating this panel was a humbling and inspiring experience, as it underscored the importance of fostering inclusive environments where all individuals can thrive and contribute to their fullest potential. I am deeply grateful to the panelists for their insights and to UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University for hosting such a crucial conversation within the Bridge Africa Summit. UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University itself is a testament to the power of gender equality, boasting a 59% female student body and achieving gender parity in its staff complement and decision-making structures. This commitment to equity and inclusion not only enriches the university community but also sets a powerful example for other institutions to follow. Reflecting on Our Research: Socio-Cultural Barriers in Women's Education A year ago, had the privilege of publishing our research paper titled: "Assessment of Socio-Cultural Barriers Faced by Women at Higher Education Institutions in District Nushki, Balochistan." The study focused on understanding how cultural norms, gender roles, and societal expectations affect women’s access to and participation in higher education, particularly in rural areas like District Nushki. 🎓 Key Insights: Identification of the most pressing socio-cultural challenges impacting women’s education. Analysis of how these barriers affect academic performance and future opportunities.
