I’ve been faffing and wasting time like a goodun! Yep, I’ve fallen into some bad habits over the last few weeks. My energy and focus dip in the afternoons, but by 4ish I’m raring to go again. So when I’m on tip top form, I work with that. I take a break from my laptop when I notice the dip, and then dive back into work when I’m feeling good again. But having the kitchen done has buggered that right up! And instead I keep catching myself staring at the screen or randomly scrolling with no purpose whatsoever. Sigh. Looking on the bright side, sometimes we need our good habits to slide to remind us why they’re important, right? So I’m seeing this as an opportunity to recommit to the behaviours that help me be at my best💪. And I’m not waiting for the chaos of the kitchen to die down; I choose to do things differently starting now. I’m curious. How do you manage YOUR working hours? It can be hard to shake off the idea that to be a proper, successful business owner we should be glued to our desks 9-5. But does that actually work for you? In this week’s episode of Unfrazzle (recorded before kitchen-gate!) I encourage you to follow your natural energy highs and lows to design working days that feel good. You can listen here, or wherever you get your podcasts: https://lnkd.in/eX_xXr45 #Unfrazzle #SoloBusinessOwner #PodcastEpisode

I Hate Taking BREAKS! A Quick Story: I’m addicted to podcasts. Recently, I was listening to a popular “YouTube creator” who posts every day. He surprised me by saying, “Don’t take breaks.” This was unexpected because most creators say to take breaks to recharge. But this MAN believes that if you stop, you might get left behind since new creators are always booming. Okay, long breaks are a big NO. But, I think short breaks are important. A quick walk, a coffee, or just stepping outside can help. Your health should always come first. Work hard, but also take care of yourself. P.S. How do you manage to balance work and self-care? My Answer: Honestly, since becoming a mom, I don't have a work-life balance, taking breaks, or self-care. I simply go with the flow and trust the process. What is yours? ____________________________________________ Connect with me Dhanalakshmi Murugan If you want to grow with ME :) #personalbranding #contentcreation #linkedincreator

If you had a huge windfall or catastrophic event happen to you, you generally get back to the same level of happiness in time, but there is no getting used to a long commute. I heard that on a podcast, and I was fascinated. So when I saw this chart in 2021, it stuck with me. It is, of course, illustrative, but the point remains that humans are fairly adaptable to both positive and negative events, but a long daily commuting causes a long term hit to happiness. This is the second in my series of charts from my post "Ten Charts I Can't Stop Thinking About". In a 2011 interview, author Dan Buettner said, "In fact, if you can cut an hourlong commute each way out of your life, it's the [happiness] equivalent of making up an extra $40,000 a year if you're at the $50- to $60,000 level. Huge... [So] it's an easy way for us to get happier. Move closer to your place of work." What a lot of comments and reactions! My experience from talking to my folk in 1-1s over the years is that views in this topic run extremely deep psychologically, and differs hugely. My office is on the edge of London, and I would say there are 3 groups. - people who like lots of people. Think live nearer the centre of London and commute out. - people who like lots of trees. They live further out and commute in. - people who want to walk to work. They live nearby. The majority of the people who want a short commute had a short commute to school when they were young. Not all, but significant. Their hatred of a commute is deep seated. The people Vs trees thing is also strong (it's a little bit like introvert Vs extrovert). But it can vary over people's lives. Young people like the city vibe more. People with families tend to like trees more. Not universal obviously. I haven't completely understood the WFH effect yet. It's more complicated than just people who like trees and not commuting. And finally, there's the whole partner dynamics aspect. That's always fascinating. You learn a lot about people when you talk about trade offs they make in their relationships when considering something so deeply felt.

In a world where the lines between professional and personal life often blur, how do we maintain a healthy balance? Growing up, we observed various contrasting models of work and family life. It taught us a vital lesson: compartmentalization. When we're at work, let's immerse ourselves in our professional roles. When we're with family, let's fully engage with them. It’s about creating boundaries that allow us to thrive in both worlds. What's your approach to balancing these crucial aspects of life? 100 Reasons why I love remote work. Reason #2: I don't commute anymore. Ever! In 2020, we had two cars in our household, and I was spending 30-45 minutes commuting to work—depending on the traffic. Not to mention, I was burning through 250 EUR on gas every month! 😣 Let’s do the math: 45 minutes, 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month—that’s up to 30 hours of my life each month, just sitting in traffic. Recently, I read how some CEOs try to make commuting sound positive, like by listening to podcasts. Well, guess what? I can still listen to my podcasts... but now I do it while running, or hitting the gym—much better if you ask me. #RemoteWork #100ReasonsWhyILoveRemoteWork
