Did you know I'm passionate about nature and people? And crucially about how we bring the two together to deliver meaningful, sustainable nature recovery at a landscape scale? The answer is, probably not, as I'm not great at putting my consultant self out here on LinkedIn. Partly because I'm not sure how best to do so, and partly because I see so many other voices in this space I question what another will add. However, I've been doing a lot of thinking about my consultancy offer and what impact I want to have, and have decided it is time to overcome the fear in this space and share more about what I do. So here goes... I am passionate about meaningful and impactful delivery of landscape scale nature recovery, joining land management expertise with social integrity. I am committed to my own continual professional development in this area as well as being passionate about growing a generation of conservationists with the skills to work in a collaborative environment. I am keen to join with other like-minded professionals to create a network of associates who can support landscape scale projects in this way. In the field of nature conservation we have tackled the easy bits - to move forward with nature recovery at scale we now need to tackle the difficult bits – this requires creative thinking and working with a wider range of stakeholders to create meaningful and sustainable solutions. It can be hard to find the time and headspace to progress this work. Wren ECOnsulting offers pragmatic project/programme management support for landscape scale nature recovery projects. Whether you’re a landowner or organisation interested in nature recovery I can help you fit the bits of the jigsaw together to set up and deliver impactful sustainable land management projects. From project/programme inception and strategic design through to practical delivery and supporting mechanisms for long term sustainability. I will be reaching out directly to existing nature recovery projects and potential associates (I love a good collaboration!) but I'm sharing here in case I miss anyone or it just happens to be the time you look at LinkedIn and realise that I have what you need :-) Thanks for reading and reaching out 😊 #NatureRecovery #LandscapeScale #PeopleandNature #ConsultancyServices #ImperfectAction

Looking to attract private investment for nature conservation projects? You need to know this 👇 Landowners and landscapes are fundamental, but so are your investors. Here's what they're looking for: 📈 Impact and resilience, not just mitigation: businesses are starting to realise that the destruction of Nature threatens their bottom line. Long-term resilience for Nature helps to safeguard their long-term operational resilience too. Where you can, relate the project outcomes to their business model. 🌳 NbS where possible: NbS makes Nature as an asset more valuable - ecologically and economically. But unlike carbon credits, there's no mature market for this yet. So we need to be realistic about what will attract long-term investment right now and how to weave in NbS. 🧑💻 Data-driven insights: Investors know they need natural capital data, but are often unsure what data exactly and why. This presents an opportunity for us as the experts on the ground. When presenting your baseline data and metrics for success, clearly articulate why you recommend tracking that information in particular and be open to discussing additional or alternative data that will help meet their operational needs. 💼 A good fit for their operations: This may not be the case for everyone. But businesses may look to offset or invest in particular restoration projects because it relates to their operations. So as conservationists, we need to offer some level of flexibility and variety, whilst safeguarding environmental and project integrity. We need to be willing to tailor approaches between projects and not just produce generic propositions in need of generic funding. 🤝 Credible partners and challengers: Reputational risk is a real concern as we enter into unchartered territory - for both suppliers (🌳) and buyers (💰). Investors have eased their clients' worries by partnering with credible organisations in the environmental space so projects are designed more collaboratively. And on the flip side, organisations like the National Landscapes Association are producing ethical charters to help define their standards when partnering with private companies. We may need to be more open to who we work with in the beginning, and find ways to help businesses with their green transition in a just, transparent, and realistic way. Many thanks to Environmental Finance again for the insightful Natural Capital Investment EMEA this month. I'm looking forward to taking these insights back to my team as we begin to design investible propositions across the National Landscapes family. #nationallandscapes #nationallandscapesassociation #naturalcapital #naturebasedsolutions

🌍 Are You Aligning Your Investments with Global Environmental Standards? The Ecosystem Restoration Standard (ERS) and other international guidelines provide a robust framework for planning, implementing, and monitoring ecological restoration projects. Adhering to these standards can dramatically improve the effectiveness and credibility of your nature-based investments. Why Follow Global Environmental Standards? ▫ Project Effectiveness. Aligning with the ERS ensures projects are scientifically sound, socially just, and environmentally beneficial. It leads to better outcomes and increased co-benefits, such as biodiversity conservation and carbon sequestration. ▫ Increased Credibility. Following global guidelines demonstrates alignment with internationally recognized principles and best practices. It boosts investor confidence and attracts additional funding opportunities. ▫ Real-world Success. Brazil's Atlantic Forest Restoration Pact, committed to restoring 15 million hectares by 2050, has successfully aligned with the ERS. The nation has restored over 8 million hectares so far, leading to notable ecosystem health improvements and increased carbon sequestration. Overcoming Challenges Aligning with global standards may present challenges, such as a lack of awareness or limited resources. However, thorough research, third-party verification, and direct engagement with project developers can help overcome these barriers. At recarb, we specialize in guiding companies and investors through the complexities of meeting global environmental standards. Our expertise ensures that your projects are compliant, impactful, and sustainable. By aligning your investments with global guidelines, you can enhance the effectiveness and credibility of your nature-based projects and contribute to a sustainable future. World Environment Day 2024: Restoring Our Land, Securing Our Future: A Business Imperative On World Environment Day 2024, we confront the escalating challenges of land degradation, desertification, and drought—a triad threatening the stability and sustainability of our ecosystems. This year’s theme, "Our Land. Our Future.," compels us to rethink our interaction with the land, which sustains us, our enterprises, communities, and economies. Indigenous Wisdom in Land Stewardship First Nations Peoples of this land have cultivated a symbiotic relationship with Country for millennia. Ancient practices, rooted in deep ecological knowledge, offer us a blueprint for restoration and resilience. By integrating Indigenous knowledge systems into land management strategies, businesses can unlock sustainable practices that honour cultural heritage and enhance ecological health. The Business Role in Land Restoration Businesses wield significant influence over land use. With this power comes a profound responsibility—to not only mitigate their environmental footprint but to actively invest in land restoration and drought resilience initiatives. Here’s how: 1. Innovate for Impact: Develop technologies and practices that reduce land degradation and improve soil health. This could range from precision agriculture to sustainable water management systems that increase efficiency and reduce wastage. 2. Collaborate and Invest: Forge partnerships with local communities, governments, and NGOs to fund and implement large-scale land restoration projects. Shared investment in green infrastructure can yield dividends for ecosystem services and community well-being. 3. Adopt Indigenous Practices: Engage with Indigenous communities to learn about original land management techniques. This not only fosters greater respect and integration but can lead to more sustainable and adaptable business practices. 4. Policy Advocacy: Advocate for policies that promote sustainable land use and provide incentives for businesses to invest in land restoration. Corporate voices can be powerful in shaping a regulatory framework that values long-term ecological health over short-term gains. Conclusion As leaders in the business community, we have both an opportunity and an obligation to lead the charge in land restoration. Let us draw on the timeless wisdom of First Nations Peoples and the innovative spirit of the corporate sector to forge a path that secures a resilient, thriving future for our land and our people. Remember, the land is not merely the ground upon which we build our businesses—it is the foundation of our future. Let us act now, for our land, for our future.
