🎬 (2/6) In this second episode of our school mini-series on our core values, Cecilia Beylefeld, our Headteacher, shares what CURIOSITY means for L’Ecole de Battersea. And it’s all about recruiting the right teaching staff! Our teachers are not only satisfied by delivering a lesson, but they want to make it captivating. Our unique curriculum integrates Art History, numerous school outings, and trips to inspire children to learn, explore, read, visit museums, and develop curious, inquiring minds. Each year, we also take part in the South Ken Kids Festival, happening this week at the Institut français du Royaume-Uni. Simple activities, songs, and concepts for children often focus on engagement, development, and fun. 🤩 These ideas help children build foundational skills while sparking curiosity. Below are examples of simple things for children in different areas: Songs and Rhymes Songs like “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” use repetition, rhyme, and rhythm to teach language and coordination. • Benefits: Develops memory, pattern recognition, and motor skills. • Activities: Pair songs with finger movements or clapping games. Nature Exploration Encourage children to engage with the natural world through simple activities like collecting leaves, observing insects, or identifying shapes in clouds. • Ideas: Nature scavenger hunts, planting seeds, or birdwatching. • Benefits: Fosters curiosity, motor skills, and environmental awareness. One of the best ways to teach a child is to engage them in interactive learning and use their imagination as a tool. Museums play a vital role in children's learning and growth. 1. Interactive Learning: Hands-on exhibits engage children in active, practical learning. 2. Curiosity and Imagination: Museums spark curiosity and stimulate children's imaginations. 3. Cultural Awareness: Exploring diverse cultures fosters empathy and understanding in children 4. Inspiration: Exposure to history, art and science inspires creativity and innovation. 5. Academic Support and Memory Retention: Museums complement school subjects with real-world examples. Multi-sensory experiences help children retain information. The 100 Languages of the Child https://lnkd.in/d49ddA-8 I’ll never forget the first lecture of my Primary Education degree, where we were introduced to the powerful poem ‘The 100 Languages of the Child’ by Loris Malaguzzi. It resonated deeply with me then, and it continues to shape my practice as both a teacher and a leader today. This beautiful concept celebrates the countless ways children express themselves—through art, music, storytelling, movement, play, and so much more. It reminds us that every child has a rich world of creativity and curiosity within them, just waiting to be nurtured and celebrated. Yet so often, the systems and structures around us can inadvertently silence these “languages,” focusing instead on a narrow definition of success. This poem has become a touchstone for me—a reminder to create spaces where children can flourish as their whole selves.
