I was surprised to find out that vehicle incidents continue to account for the largest proportion of worker fatalities in Australia. Machinery operators and drivers have the highest fatality rate. My heart drops when I think about the families impacted by these incidents. I'm not sure tech is the complete answer, but it definitely gives us eyes that we never had. It is becoming cheaper, connected, durable, and maintainable. Credit to viatech.ai for this video, sharing some insightful lessons from the US in sand, gravel and quarries. I've seen various approaches (particularly for people/ vehicle interaction scenarios): - Vision-based monitoring and AI systems (like this) - Lasers that project visible perimeter borders on the ground (Incident Zero) - Industrial radars mounted that work well in dusty environments (Indurad) - Proximity detection and collision avoidance systems (OEMs etc.) What are your thoughts?
