Over the course of my twelve years in the insurance industry it seems that a significant challenge has arisen: a shortage of support staff that’s impacting service delivery and overall efficiency. I see this as having had significant impacts over the past two to three years most prominently on the carrier side, as processing times have gone from days to weeks to in some cases months. It is clear that when support roles go unfilled, it places additional strain on existing teams, leads to longer turnaround times, and can ultimately impact client satisfaction. As experienced professionals retire and fewer new people enter the field, this gap will only widen unless we take decisive action. So, how do we address this talent shortage? Some might argue AI and automation, but that will only go so far and will take time to implement. We need to make the insurance industry more attractive to new talent by highlighting the meaningful career paths available and offering competitive salaries and benefits. Organizations should invest in robust training and mentorship programs to rapidly upskill new hires. By focusing on these areas, we can bridge the talent gap, support our teams more effectively, and ensure that the industry continues to thrive.
