The latest homelessness stats have been released and they paint a bleak picture. More children than ever are experiencing homelessness in England, including here in Greater Manchester. Too many young people are at critical stages of their young adulthood without the safety and security of a home. This disrupts learning, it disrupts relationships and it disrupts lives. We hope the new approaches that the new Government has tabled, especially their plans for housing, will provide some positive news in the months ahead, but as these figures show, there is a national crisis taking place. In the past five years, the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity has been able to fund over 78,000 nights of accommodation in our A Bed Every Night scheme for those who would otherwise have been sleeping on our streets, but we must do more. Everyone has a human right to have shelter and to feel safe. No one should be without a home, and we must continue to provide as much support as possible to those made most vulnerable by our society. Every donation we receive is vital to achieving this goal, allowing us to share funding where it’s needed most across each of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. Businesses can help support through corporate donations or by installing one of our ‘Tap to Donate’ machines at till points. To help us, please donate today: https://buff.ly/3uZMvs8

Once again, the number of children experiencing homelessness has risen. In Greater Manchester, that's 7,679 children living in uncertainty and disruption. At the same time, we've seen a rise in the number of households owed a relief duty by their local authority. In other words, a rise in the number of households who are currently homeless. Genuinely affordable housing, meaningful preventative work, and full wrap around support to people without a home or facing a night on the streets are some of the raft of measures needed to truly end homelessness, and truly eradicate the need for rough sleeping. Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity are proud to support so many dedicated organisations in the city-region working hard to bring about real change, but we depend on the generosity and support of the businesses and people of the region to do that. If you can, help us be a lifeline to organisations on the frontline. https://lnkd.in/eH-Y9J9R We'll keep advocating for them, supporting them, and getting as much funding to them as we possibly can. Together, let's end #homelessness. Our night shelters have received more than 1000 referrals for men and we are about to reach 500 for women. This number is completely unprecedented, showing the huge growth in demand for our services. It is also in line with the wider trend of rising homelessness in London. The GLA’s latest Combined Homelessness And Information Network (CHAIN) report showed a 23% increase in rough sleeping compared to a year before, while the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities’ latest rough sleeping snapshot showed a 32% increase in London. We receive referrals from individuals, other charities and government services. We boosted our service provision significantly this year, but the enormous number of people without a safe place to sleep is simply more than charities are able to provide for. We will continue to support to as many people as we can, but ultimately the only way that the problem can properly be tackled is through government policy. With a General Election taking place this year, we urge all parties to make housing and homelessness a top priority.

[Homelessness in Manchester] Will you make the difference today? I’m proud to be a Trustee of the Booth Centre, a community centre in Manchester run with people affected by homelessness. As our 2022-2023 Impact Report shows, we’re making a difference to 1,000+ people annually. Section 21 no-fault evictions reached an all-time high in 2023, with more than 7,400 cases being brought before the courts. Added to this, anyone receiving a positive outcome to their asylum case is served with a 28-day notice to quit. But our resources are limited. We urgently need donations to ensure we can continue to provide for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness - Breakfast and lunch - Training and help to gain employment - Support to improve health and wellbeing - Access emergency accommodation and to secure and maintain a permanent home And many more things. As an independent charity, we rely on the generosity of our community. ASK: Would you help us and donate today? https://lnkd.in/ea6P-iEx #ESG #CSR #SocialValue #SocialImpactBusiness #CorporateSocialResponsibility #Manchester #Homelessness

Last night, I slept outside in freezing weather to raise awareness for youth experiencing homelessness. Covenant House Alaska provides shelter and support for 200 young people every night. Tragically, some who can’t access these services are forced to take desperate measures—like sleeping in cemeteries and using tombstones to shield themselves from the freezing winds. So far, we’ve raised nearly $10.5K toward our $15K goal, and I want to thank everyone who has already generously donated. Your support means so much and is making a real difference. Please consider donating through https://lnkd.in/ggaicFrv or sharing this post with someone who might be able to help. Even the smallest contribution can make a big impact! This was my second year participating, and even as a lifelong Alaskan, it’s mentally and physically taxing to prepare for a night outdoors in the wind, snow, or freezing temperatures. Even with state-of-the-art gear, access to a bathroom, and knowing this experience ends when I wake up, it’s still tough. I can’t imagine what it’s like to live this reality every day with no end in sight. Many people want to address homelessness but don’t realize that up to 50% of homeless adults started as homeless youth. I’ve already donated $2.5K to this campaign. If we can reach $12.5K by Friday, 11/29, I’ll contribute another $2.5K. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for these young people.

🚶♀️Taking Steps for Change: Join Kellie Sajo in Making a Difference ✨🚶♀️ In Australia, a staggering 1 in 210 people are experiencing homelessness. That's 122,000 lives facing challenges many of us can hardly imagine. This March, my incredible friend Kellie is standing up (and walking) for these individuals in a monumental way. 👟 Walk the Walk Challenge. Kellie will embark on a 122 km journey, symbolizing each thousand of the 122,000 Australians without a place to call home. This isn't just a walk. It's a mission to shed light on and support those in our community who need it the most. 🧡 Supporting Orange Sky. All donations raised by Kellie's walk will go directly to Orange Sky, an amazing organization dedicated to providing essential services like clean laundry, warm showers, and, importantly, genuine conversations to those living on the streets. Why We Need Your Support. Every dollar, every share, and every word of encouragement helps. In times where each of us faces our own battles, it's acts of kindness like this that remind us of the strength and resilience within our communities. 🙏How You Can Help. 1. Donate: No amount is too small. Every bit helps Orange Sky reach more people in need. 2. Share: Spread the word! The more people know about Kellie's walk and Orange Sky's mission, the bigger the impact we can make. 3. Encourage: Drop a message of support for Kellie and all those working hard to make a difference. Let's come together to show our fellow Australians experiencing homelessness that they are not forgotten. With your support, Kellie's steps can lead to real change and a brighter future for many. **#WalkTheWalk #SupportHomelessness #OrangeSky #CommunitySupport #MakeADifference

November is National Homeless Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the struggles faced by young people, families, and individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. This also includes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 15-22), a chance to spotlight these critical issues impacting our communities. At BEDS Plus, we’ve seen firsthand how the housing crisis continues to grow, affecting more people in the places where we live and work. Over the past year, BEDS Plus has helped change the lives of more than 5,000 people, offering essential services, support, and paths to stability. But this mission is ongoing—thousands more in our area need support, and we are committed to providing it with the help of dedicated volunteers and donors. As we enter the season of giving, we invite you to join us. You can make a difference by volunteering or donating to BEDS Plus. Did you know that over 38,000 young people aged 15–24 years presented alone to a homelessness service in 2022–23? Of these young people, almost half experienced mental ill-health, and over one-third experienced domestic and family violence. Most of these young people needed short- or long-term accommodation, and most were turned away due to a lack of capacity. These statistics only scratch the surface of issues that young people experiencing homelessness face. To have statistics like this in a country like Australia is not acceptable; together, we can have a tangible impact, and now is the time to act. #wehavetodobetter #YHMD

🌟 Make a Difference This Homelessness Week 🌟 You have the power to transform the lives of those experiencing homelessness. By donating to Street Law, you ensure that individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness can access their essential identity documents—something many of us take for granted but is a fundamental human right. For many people experiencing homelessness, obtaining and maintaining ID is a constant struggle. Without a safe and secure place to call home, people often lose their identity documents. Yet, having proper identification is crucial for accessing essential services and participating fully in society. We’re dedicated to helping our clients obtain their ID documents, but the process can be costly. Applications for identity documents range from $33 to $275, and clients often need multiple documents to meet requirements. Our funding does not cover these fees, so we rely on the generosity of donors to make this possible. Your contribution directly supports our efforts to provide these critical services and empower individuals to reclaim their rights and opportunities. Donate today at https://lnkd.in/girBwwa and help us ensure everyone has the identification they need to rebuild their lives.
