#AllocateBeyondSummit, our annual flagship gathering that brought together over 200 family office LPs and venture capital GPs to discuss the path forward in #venturecapital through responsible #innovation, diversity in experiences, and harnessing of the latest technological advances. Here are the major highlights: 1. Embracing Responsible Innovation: Hemant Taneja from General Catalyst highlighted the crucial role of integrating profitability with societal impact, a strategy that builds long-term investor trust and positions companies for sustained success. This approach ensures that our investments contribute positively to society. 2. Diversity in Venture Capital: Our mainstage speakers from diverse backgrounds, ranging from music and athletics to academia (Lan Xuezhao from Basis Set) and sales (Pejman Nozad from Pear VC), showcased that there is no single pathway to success in venture capital. Alex Pall from Mantis Venture Capital and Lance Armstrong from NEXT VENTŪRES have leveraged their unique skills—from branding and storytelling to competitive drive and team-building—to enrich the venture capital ecosystem with fresh perspectives and innovative strategies. 3. AI's Transformative Impact: The breakout sessions led by Tomasz Tunguz from Theory Ventures, Nakul Mandan from Audacious Ventures, Sunil Nagaraj from Ubiquity Ventures, Will Coffield from Riot Ventures) emphasized AI’s potential in creating new business models and improving efficiencies. Insights included that while large language models may become commoditized with major incumbents prevailing, the real excitement and investment returns are anticipated in the application layers of AI. 4. Streamlining VC Processes: The need to address inefficiencies in the private markets—from portfolio construction to administration—was a focus. Excitement around Allocate’s solutions to streamline origination, due diligence, and portfolio monitoring, which empowers LPs to make more strategic decisions effectively. 5. Investment Sentiment and Liquidity Challenges: The venture capital industry faces significant liquidity issues, with companies remaining private longer, often beyond a decade. This breakout topic, led by Mark Suster from Upfront Ventures and Ravi Viswanathan of NewView Capital noted that the current liquidity market is constrained, with IPOs feasible primarily for companies with substantial revenues and large-scale mergers and acquisitions hampered by regulatory barriers. Innovative solutions, such as borrowing against private holdings or effectively selling stakes, were highlighted as essential strategies to enable LPs to access liquidity and engage more actively in the private markets.
Today, we conclude another amazing year of gathering a leading group of venture fund managers and LP investors for our flagship Beyond Summit 2024 by Allocate. The Allocate team is very grateful for your partnership! Samir Kaji Hana Yang Austen McGregor Nic Millikan, CAIA, CFA John Felix Eitan M. Peter Epstein View our recap video.

The University Venture Capital Society is a Registered Student Organization at the University of Arkansas - Sam M. Walton College of Business that owes a giant debt to the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and its former and current visionary leadership, Sarah Goforth and Phil Shellhammer. I had the pleasure of meeting with Ben from Archangel as part of our 100 Coffee Challenge. While there was no coffee this time, Roselle and Joe have confirmed that this still counts! I had a great conversation with Ben about the challenges of running a Venture Fund. Learning how Archangel evolved from an angel syndicate to its current form was fascinating. What stood out to me was Ben's awesome sense of responsibility in shepherding the capital entrusted to him. *Key takeaways from our conversation: - Develop a product that inspires confidence in your LPs. - A solid track record and the ability to demonstrate value growth are crucial. - Make the most of what you have. While massive exits are rare, it's essential to highlight the value you’ve created.
