🌎 Insights from the SDG Forum 😍 We're excited to share a post about the SDG forum in Brussels last week. As environmental caretakers, we were thrilled to engage with policy makers, academics, experts, businesses, and NGOs to explore SDG integration across diverse business models. 🌳 The topics we learned more about: 👉 SDG Barometer: a compass for sustainable strategies, guiding companies to frame global initiatives around these crucial goals. 👉 AI & sustainability: how AI can support 134 of 169 SDG targets, and its power to drive positive environmental change if correctly implemented. 👉 Blue & green finance: emerging investment trends supporting ocean-related projects and sustainable practices in finance. 👉 Circular economy in action: real-world examples of circularity principles, which emphasize the need for a paradigmatic shift in manufacturing and production. 👉 Becoming SDG Proof: how the PCA2030-Trajectory toolkit embeds SDGs into ESG strategies in an easy-to-grasp way. 👉 Sustainable food systems: how to address the urgent need for resilient agricultural practices to reduce GHG emissions and food waste. 👉 Biodiversity boost: actionable steps to reverse the biodiversity crisis in Belgium and beyond. ✨ This forum reinforced our belief that SDG-oriented strategies are crucial for addressing global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequality. 🌱 We're now committed to implementing these insights and collaborating with our Go Forest members to create a more sustainable future. 🤝 We highly recommend participating in upcoming SDGs events to continue your sustainable journey, so don't miss out! 🌲What is a nature positive aligned business model? Nature is a business issue. Evidence is mounting on the risks that nature degradation poses to the stability and sustainability of global economies. From climate change and biodiversity loss to water scarcity and soil degradation, a degraded natural world can impact business operations, supply chains and market stability both directly and indirectly. There is a global imperative for businesses, citizens and governments to work towards a “nature positive” goal, halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030. 💡This is why Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is working with partners from across Europe on the A-Track project to tackle these systemic problems, looking at how to support and scale business models. Our report released as part of the project is accompanied by a business briefing, which works to provide a practical guide to looks at how scaling nature-positive-aligned business models must be adopted to halt and reverse nature loss. 👉Read the full business briefing: https://lnkd.in/eF8hh6PA 🦜Find out more about our work on the #ATrack project at our event at #COP16Colombia this week: https://lnkd.in/e5Q-ua9a These reports are the first in CISL's Restoring Nature campaign, which is activating leadership to reshape our economies and rebuild markets so they properly value, respect, protect and restore nature. I'm excited to share our yearly ESG report with you. The United Nations set out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for global peace and prosperity, and we’re proud of our contributions to these goals. Here are the highlights: 🌾 SDG 2: Zero Hunger We provided precision pollination for over 140K acres of crops. (That's a 240% increase from the previous year!) 🌡️ SDG 13: Climate Action We cut down 1,174 tonnes of CO2 emissions by reducing hive transport while providing superior pollination efficiency. (That's a 188% increase from 2022!) 🌳 SDG 15: Life on Land Our tech helped beekeepers lower bee mortality and save 25,190 bee colonies—about 629 million bees! That's the power of precision pollination.

Only 11% of companies who have committed to Science Based Targets initiative are on track to meet their objectives. Thanks to InTheBoardroom by Valore D and Quantis yesterday I was lucky to get two great perspectives on sustainable change. To transform our companies in a sustainable way we could: 📚educate all the generations of the private sector on the climate and biodiversity crisis: we need their input to turn things around; 🧑⚖️explain how to comply to the new CSRD non financial reporting standards - lots of data to be cleaned and organised; ⚠️work with board members, C-suite and sustainability managers on how to mitigate the risk that climate change and biodiversity loss have on their value chain- they have all been hit by a climate event in the past year; 🦋give them tools to engage in a new strategy and transform their business models with data and innovative nature based solutions such as rewilding, regenerative agriculture, afforestation but also upcycling solutions to give value and a new life to their waste; 📣teach them how to comunicate better on what they do so they are not Green hiding and afraid to show they are thought leaders or use best practices in sustainability; 🏋️train their leaders on how to think in an integrated way about their financial, human, environmental, intellectual and social capital - with the right mindset they will solve these complex problems; 🪘keep doing it, repeat your message, don’t lose hope, self-care to keep having the energy to influence them quickly but for the long-term, not for the next quarterly earnings; Let’s do this together? "Transitioning to a transformative and circular economy catalyses transformational change towards greater sustainability, resilience and equity and delivers on human health, well-being and environmental outcomes. The WEF [water-energy-food] nexus fits this dimension as it recognises the interlinkages between socio-economic and socio-ecological systems and how their systemic properties shape their interactions, interdependencies and interrelationships. An added advantage of the WEF nexus is that it integrates, simplifies and facilitates integrated interventions to reduce risk and vulnerability, forming an integral part of sustainable development."
A recent report highlights that efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are falling behind, particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic, with progress in BRICS countries being above average but still reflecting a widening gap between rich and poor nations. Honorary Professor Tafadzwanashe Mabhaudhi, a professor of climate change, food systems and health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Dr Luxon Nhamo and Professor Sylvester Mpandeli of the WRC South Africa discussed the WEF nexus in relation to the SDGs in the Mail & Guardian. Achieving the SDGs necessitates innovative and transformative models for managing natural resources, global finance, and partnerships. The interrelated grand challenges of water, energy, and food are central to sustainable development, affecting socio-ecological, socio-economic, human, and environmental well-being. Effective management of these resources is crucial for climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as for achieving resilience and sustainability. The increasing complexity of challenges such as climate change, resource insecurities, and socio-economic degradation requires systemic approaches like the water-energy-food (WEF) nexus, which balances trade-offs, enhances synergies, mitigates resource depletion, and promotes waste reduction within planetary boundaries. The WEF nexus offers a framework for transitioning to a more circular and inclusive economy, fostering transformational change towards greater sustainability, resilience, and equity. This approach recognises the interconnectedness of socio-economic and socio-ecological systems, facilitating integrated interventions to reduce risk and vulnerability. Current global challenges, including rising water demand, food insecurity, and energy shortages, underscore the urgent need for policy and decision-makers to consider the broad relationships between these sectors in developmental plans. Key actions include bridging the gap between science and policy, innovative financing, promoting partnerships, leveraging digital technologies, and fostering local solutions to global challenges. The upcoming WEF Nexus Regional Summit in August 2024, organised by the Water Research Commission and various international partners, aims to operationalise the WEF nexus and accelerate progress towards the SDGs in southern Africa. https://lnkd.in/d8gPDeTD #WEFnexus #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #SDGs #Sustainability #UKZN #InspiringGreatness #WaterEnergyFood

🌍✨ As I reflect on my experience at the Climate Change Summit, hosted at the Bucharest National Opera, I am inspired by the wealth of ideas and discussions that unfolded over the two days. This event brought together thought leaders and innovators dedicated to addressing the pressing challenges of our time, from Biodiversity and Energy to Finance, Circular Economy, and Food. Day 1 was filled with thought-provoking panels and keynotes that explored a wide array of topics, including mass sustainable technologies and the ambitious vision of creating the largest natural park in Europe. It was evident that while we have only begun to scratch the surface of what is necessary for a greener future, we must take decisive steps forward. A total of 160 eligible applications were received for the CCS Awards, showcasing innovative visions for a better future. Out of these, only six ideas from individuals under 30 and six solutions from SMEs and NGOs were awarded in the six categories: Energy, Mobility, Construction/Circular Economy, Food & Agriculture, Environmental Education and Biodiversity/CEE Award. A significant highlight for me was presenting the Food & Agriculture category, supported by #Bayer where I had the privilege of awarding: - Lara Erjavec for her Smart Market App, which connects consumers with local producers to promote seasonal and local consumption. - favr., a Romanian start-up dedicated to producing sustainable snacks from recycled food by-products, represented by Alexandru Cristinoi. Day 2 started with focused discussions that hold the potential for significant long-term impact, with panels addressing legislation, sustainable finance & investment, and ESG measurement and reporting. The ESG Leaders Forum, hosted by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, provided a distinguished setting for these essential conversations. I was honored to participate in the “Example of Good Practice in Business” panel alongside Ioana Botezatu, Raluca Mocanu and Tiberiu Danetiu, and I extend my gratitude to them for their insightful contributions and the valuable examples they shared during our discussion. It is evident that, regardless of the industry we represent, we share a unified objective: to safeguard the planet for future generations. Overall, my experience at the summit reaffirmed my belief that, together, we can make meaningful strides toward a sustainable future. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Ciprian Stanescu, Roxana Cojocaru and Social Innovation Solutions for the privilege of being part of this transformative movement.🌱💡 #ClimateChangeSummit #Sustainability #BetterTogether #ClimateAction #CCS2024 #Future
