A good LTT article on the then-new Waltham Forest Mini-Holland, from 2015. “Right now too many don’t see the option of cycling or walking as practical, feasible or safe...In five years’ time I believe that attitude will be radically different and those people who embrace the opportunities Mini-Holland opens up will find themselves fitter, healthier and financially better off." Did it work? Here's a Forbes article and a 30-minute video. See for yourself. https://lnkd.in/guXZU2Bu
And here's LTT's coverage of what was going down in Waltham Forest back in April 2015, with contributions from Clyde Loakes and Jon Little, author of the Mini Holland bid that secured £27m from the London Mayor. https://lnkd.in/eXyAQwAc

It's been so inspiring looking back at Waltham Forest's progress over the past 10 years in promoting active travel and a people centred / healthy streets approach to street design. However, while the progress is undeniable and positive changes are clear on the ground, we're still not hitting the heady ambitions outlined in 2015. Your article includes - The council wants the modal share for cycling in Waltham Forest to rise from the current 2% to 10% by 2020. “In this borough 40% of journeys are done by one person in a car travelling less than three miles,” Little maintains. “These are the journeys that are transferrable.” According to the Healthy Streets Scorecard website Waltham Forest cycling mode share is still at 2%. The highest outer London Borough is at 5% (Richmond Upon Thames) - https://lnkd.in/eq3duCMY Will we hit the Mayor's target of 80% of all trips in London to be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport by 2041? Will we hit associated Net Zero and Vision Zero targets? What more can be done to support the positive work being done in areas like Waltham Forest and help other boroughs do the same? Can things be accelerated without creating a backlash from people who feel they are negatively impacted by the changes or don't feel included? Trying to stay positive 😊
