A top global transportation organization is laying out the essential metrics that all communities should track if they want to understand how sustainable they really are — and giving advocates a tool to see how well their neighborhoods stack up right now. Find out how many of your neighbors live near protected bike lanes, rapid transit, car-free places, and more at @ITDPHQ, and learn more about why it matters at the link.

We don't need to banish steps (or cars) for an inclusive, sustainable transport system. But we do need to know who is not participating in the activities that make a life worthwhile. Once we know who is not going out as much as they would like, we can work out why. Part of that *why* will be about transport options. When infrastructure isn't accessible, only a fraction of the community uses it. We can't prioritise ramps and crossings effectively unless we know who isn't traveling. We should be asking people where they don't go. We should be surveying people on streets to understand what an accessible, welcoming street comprises. Many professionals are already doing this! Keep it up, you lot 👍🏼 Image has a picture of a zebra crossing with yellow tactile paving. A heading says inclusive transport insights. Text on the image says Smooth, step-free choices don't need to be everywhere. But everyone should be able to participate in the activities of everyday life. There is a link to Bridget's website.

I recently had a discussion with Kamran Shabbir about reducing reliance on individual transport. We explored how enhancing public transport, offering incentives, and improving urban planning can encourage people to choose public options over personal vehicles. Shifting towards public transport isn't just about reducing traffic—it's essential for a sustainable future. What are your thoughts on this? #Sustainability #PublicTransport #UrbanPlanning

Is adding more concrete the way to go? Let’s get more concrete: — URBAN EXPANSION: Can our cities keep up with the rising demand for parking, or should we maybe rethinking how we use urban space in the first place? — BUSINESS NEEDS: Adequate parking is critical for businesses, but could alternatives like park-and-ride systems or improved public transport better support commercial growth? — ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS: How can we find the right balance between infrastructure development and minimizing our environmental footprint? — PUBLIC TRANSPORT INVESTMENT: Is it time to rethink our transportation networks, heavily prioritize public transit, and reduce the need for more parking? What are your thoughs on this? 💬 #parking #urbanPlanning #sustainability #transportation #Germany #climateAction #futureOfMobility #GarageGoals #ParkingPerfection #GaragesNearMe

How can New York City and other major US #cities potentially improve traffic congestion and #transportation efficiency? Over the last several decades, Paris has invested in expanding public transportation, reducing car-centric street space, and providing noncar modes of transportation. These efforts help reduce traffic, accidents, pollution, and enhance residents' quality of life. In this Urban Wire piece, policymakers can explore strategies to decrease traffic and greenhouse gases using Paris—where the #Olympics kick off today—as a model city. https://urbn.is/3YldriT

## Why Public Transportation is the Key to a Greener, Pedestrian-Friendly Future 🌱🚶♀️ We're all feeling the heat (literally!), and it's time we seriously consider the impact of our transportation choices. 🚗💨 Public transportation isn't just about getting from A to B - it's about building a more sustainable and livable future for everyone. 🌎 Here's why: **1. Reduced Emissions:** Less cars on the road means less pollution, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier planet. **2. Less Congestion:** Efficient public transportation systems mean smoother commutes and less time stuck in traffic. **3. Walkable Cities:** Investing in public transport encourages the development of pedestrian-friendly spaces, making cities more enjoyable and accessible. **4. Affordability:** Public transportation is often a more affordable option than owning a car, making it accessible to a wider range of people. Let's work together to make public transportation a priority in our cities. What are your thoughts on how we can make it even better? 🤔 #sustainability #greenliving #publictransport #walkablecities #futureofcities #transportation #urbanplanning
