To professionals supporting individuals who endured childhood abuse in institutional settings: please consider the impact of your words. Before a new client leaves, feeling misunderstood, rejected, or let down, take a moment to reflect on the power of certain terms and phrases. We as victims often carry profound sensitivities that affect our trust and willingness to engage. Let's communicate with compassion and understanding to foster healing and build meaningful connections. Remember to use the word empathy only if you have been there yourself. #ChildhoodAbuse #TraumaRecovery #InstitutionalAbuse #ProfessionalSensitivity #MentalHealthAwareness #EmpathyInPractice #SupportingVictims #SocialWork #TherapeuticSupport #EmpatheticCommunication

When a child is being abused dissociation takes away the most painfully overwhelming parts of the experience and "puts it on ice" in our bodies until it's the right time to thaw. It's as if the experiences of betrayal and harm didn't happen at all, or barely happened. These moments were real but not in a way we can process until we are out of harms way. We can't process what we don't remember, and that's why addressing dissociation in trauma treatment is so critical. Once the thawing begins to occur, in the presence of safe and consistent enough others, all the painfully overwhelming parts of being abused start to come back in true color and form. The availability and consistency of safe people helps us release the dissociative protection. We can't process terror and abandonment alone, it would swallow us. Grieving comes more naturally when you stop dissociating. You see your vulnerability and innocence and that fact that none of the harm had anything to do with you, but with the ones doing the harming. That helps people release shame and heal. #healingfromtrauma #healingfromdissociation #healing #cptsd #childabuse #childhoodabuse #chiacgotraumatherapists #chicagotrauma #developmentaltrauma #healingjourney #abusesurvivor #csecsurvivor #childpornsurvivor #traffickingsurvivor #Physicalabuse #emotionalabuse #sexualabuse #neglect

💔 Emotional abuse isn’t always visible, but its impact runs deep. It can look like constant criticism, silent treatments, or subtle manipulation—anything that chips away at self-worth and peace of mind. It often disguises itself as "concern" or "just kidding," leaving behind confusion and self-doubt. 🌫️ Emotional abuse thrives on control, aiming to reshape how we see ourselves and how we feel about the world. It makes us question our value and often isolates us from those who care. Recognizing it is the first step to breaking free. ✨ Healing starts by reclaiming our voices and re-learning to trust our own feelings. You deserve relationships that build you up, respect your boundaries, and celebrate who you are. 💪🏽💖 #EmotionalAbuse #MentalHealthMatters #Isaynomore #Prevention #friends #Family #Protection #YoDigoNoMas #YDNM
