Partnerships across private landholders, government departments, emergency services, research, and indigenous groups made for an informative meeting of current and emerging risks across northern Australia. Leadership, data, research, and stakeholder collaboration were some of the key themes to come from this important forum. #firemanagement #afac #NHRA #RFSQ #QPWS #Agforce #NAILSMA
The Northern Australia Fire Managers Forum took place in Townsville last week, and Deputy State Recovery Coordinator Mike Wassing was there to represent QRA. Held every second year, the forum aims to enhance fire management capabilities in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. In recognising the unique northern Australian environment, we can tailor bushfire preparations to our surroundings. Doing so will make sure Queensland communities are best protected against the threat of fires.

This week I had the fantastic opportunity to join West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service on their waste fire training day. We got to hear from their Waste Fire Tactical Advisor and representatives from Biffa and West Sussex County Council. I also got the opportunity to speak a bit about what the Environment Agency's role and priorities were when responding to a waste fire, as well as the resources we have to support our partner organisations. By far, my favorite part of the day was taking part in a simulated waste fire exercise in WSFR's new training facility 🔥🔥 #wastefire #exercise #partnershipworking #incidentresponse #incidentmanagement

Updates to building regs… The Approved Document B (fire safety) Volume 1 for dwellings now include: •A total ban on combustible materials. •The introduction of “secure information boxes” for buildings with storeys over 11m in height. •And a recommendation for Evacuation Alert Control & Indicating Equipment (EACIE) system for buildings with a storey height over 18m. But it still defines the lowest level of fire detection as a minimum. Dam safety is our key focus at USSD. Kayed Lakhia, Director of Hazard Mitigation at the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, talks about how we can all make an impact. The following is an excerpt pulled from the USSD Bulletin: Dams & Levees Spring 2024 Issue: Dam safety is everyone’s responsibility, and May 31 is an opportunity for the dam safety community to work together to promote dam safety to the American public. The National Dam Safety Program aims to support these efforts through national outreach campaigns and by providing resources and suggestions for local communities to participate as well. When you engage others, you are commemorating the lives lost to dam failures of the past, recognizing initiatives to improve our aging infrastructure today, and helping the public continue to enjoy the benefits of dams into the future. We will be doing a similar test like the one in this video but on a larger scale. 9:00 AM CST Tuesday June 25th at the Calcasieu Emergency Response Training Center. Please contact me directly if interested in attending. (337) 967-6220 Firebull A/B represents the newest development in fluorine-free firefighting concentrates. What sets Firebull apart is its complete absence of fluorine or intentionally added PFAS, making it a safer and more environmentally friendly choice for firefighting operations. All versions of Firebull are GreenScreen Certified Silver. Firebull A/B works very effectively at a low application rate against Class A fires. For Class B, Firebull A/B works perfectly at a standard 1% 3% and 6% depending on the situation. As impending regulations will soon ban harmful AFFF foams, Firebull is the best alternative for making the switch. Overall, the price, the performance, the versatility, and non-impact environmentally makes it the best option. https://lnkd.in/eJnDgZae
