𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐲 ✂️ Make flags, stars, or hats using craft materials. Decorating bikes, wagons, or scooters for a neighborhood parade adds to the fun. 𝟐. 𝐆𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 🎊 Check local events for parades, concerts, or fairs happening nearby. Or, for a fun alternative, have a patriotic picnic or barbecue with family and friends. Organize traditional games like sack races, tug-of-war, or a water balloon toss. 𝟑. 𝐄𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 🍰 Bake cookies with flag designs, or make fruit skewers with strawberries🍓, blueberries 🫐, and marshmallows in patriotic colors. 𝟒. As we approach Memorial Day weekend, let's take a moment to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten. If you are spending the weekend with family and friends, make sure to keep safety a priority! Here are 5 tips to keep in mind while traveling or hosting a BBQ: 🔷 Stay hydrated: Whether you're hitting the road or firing up the grill, make sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially in the summer heat. 🔷 Practice safe driving: If you're traveling, remember to buckle up, avoid distractions, and follow the speed limit. Let's keep our roads safe for everyone. 🔷 Grill safely: When grilling, keep a safe distance from flammable materials, never leave the grill unattended, and make sure it's placed on a stable surface away from children and pets. 🔷 Practice fire safety: If you're using fireworks, follow all safety guidelines and laws. Lessons learned from Mr. D: 1. Tell your family how much you love them multiple times a day. 2. Keep the door of your home open to friends and family for a great meal and cold drink. 3. Keep the pool ice cold, not sure why but it's super memorable. 4. Coach and volunteer in your town. 5. Always be willing to drive kids home after practice, regardless of how far from your home they live. 6. Love and respect your country and neighbors no exceptions Happy Memorial Day!

I PLEDGE my HEAD to clearer thinking, my HEART to greater loyalty, my HANDS to larger service, and my HEALTH to better living, for my family, my club, my community, my country and my world. This is the 4-H Pledge that youth and adults recite at the opening of each meeting. In the spirit of that pledge to clearer thinking, we ask “is there a future for 4-H in Sherburne County?” Last summer, the 4-H horse project funded and painted the barns to freshen them up for fair. Imagine the disappointment as everything the kids worked to prepare for was deluged with rain through the failing roofs on the horse barns as several waves of extreme weather occurred during fair week. The normal flurry of excitement was replaced with an all-out scramble to shift horses to higher ground and wait out the storm while also scrambling to save thousands of dollars’ worth of hay, feed, show clothes, tack and equipment. This is one of many issues that need to be addressed to deal with aging infrastructure and the future of the county fairgrounds. The county has indicated at various times the desire to sell and redevelop the property the fairground occupies. That constant fear of being evicted from the fairgrounds has not served the best interests of the youth or the community at large. Sherburne County businesses and residents are overwhelmingly supportive of 4-H programming when made aware of needs and how they can help. But who will invest in updating and improving the aging infrastructure of a fairgrounds under constant threat of eviction and redevelopment of the property? If the long-range plan is to relocate the fairgrounds, then please, let us begin the dialogue to plan out a timeline and details for beginning that endeavor. We need to at least work together to solve the immediate issues to serve our youth of today as well as plan for the future of our youth. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. We must take Christmas out of the cultural boxes into which we have thoughtlessly crammed it. We must free it of the confines of our stupidity, we must release if from the filthy hands of our greed that shaped each box, and it must be freed of the bane of special interests that attempt to seal these boxes tight. And once we’ve done all of that, we must burn every box to ash and cinders. Yet, the oddity of it all is that we really can’t keep Christmas in a box anyway. We might ignorantly presume such power, but it is only an assumption and nothing more. Despite our most robust efforts to ignore it, deny it, render it a fairy-tale, play it off as the invention of misty-eyed dreamers, and press it far off of the edges of a blind culture, Christmas remains what it is. It will forever remain the only rescue mission that set out with enough power to actually rescue us. No matter the propaganda and hype that we grant them, all other missions will fail…miserably. And I would hate to meet my own death realizing that I was ignorant enough to box up the only thing that could have saved me. When Christmas has concluded and the celebrations have stilled, when the songs have fallen silent and the parties have ceased, leave Christmas out of the box that you can’t put it in anyway. Let it be what nothing else can be. Let it rescue you, your family, your children, your marriage, your community, and your world.
